NEWS: Indonesia rocked by powerful earthquake

News just in that a powerful earthquake estimated at 6.9 or above has rocked Indonesia, preliminary casualty and damage reports are not yet available but will be shortly

This quake comes after a series over the past few months encompassing Iran and other nations, this quake has happened in the worlds largest islamic country with a population of over 300 million mainly muslims.

Still no real info yet. A 6.9 is big, but Indonesia has some good quake-proof building codes.

i am surprised we aren't hearing about this over here in australia.

hope it happened in a rural area, and not too many casualities. It was a 6.8 btw.

23 dead (including children), more than 600 injured, tolls likely to grow as reports come in from surrounding areas.
The local hospital suffered damage and the airport has been closed because of damage.
