Ocelot, I sure hope you have kids, 'cause I think you'll make a hellva parent.

Thanx. I do think I would make a great dad.... since I learned from the best.. my own parents.
. But kids are still a long way from happening for me. I need to find me a wife and get married first.

Yeah, ritalin is another one. BIG fight with the wife on this one. We gave our son a choice and he said "no more". My youngest though is SOOOOOO hyper she actually needs it to function.

I have seen to many children diagnosed with ADHD, as young as 6-12, its pathetic. Children are naturely curious little critters, why mellow them out?
I loved running around in circles around my mom as a kid, throwing balls at passing cars when I was 8, It was just fun. Dont take Life away from a child.

This is a perfect example of people looking for a 'quick fix' to their problems. As worldwatcher posted above parents should focus on loving their child and sharing special moments with them. It seems people these days look for a convenient way out of trying times instead of applying common sense to the situation. I would never give a child this type of medication nor would I take it myself.

I'm anti-pills because I don't believe in them.

Well said. I agree 100%

Yeah it seems that its a #ing crime being a child these days. Children are curious and crazy. Hell I did my share of crazy stuff when I was a child.

If they had known about ADHD back in the Stone age I would have been diagnosed as such. In fact my parents said that I was worse than Kathy. The thing is, and I agree with you, I had to deal with it. Sure my leg can go at warp speed sometimes, but I had to learn how to get my body under control. With these drugs the kids aren't learning this. Also I insist that no drugs on weekends.

My legs just went in warp speed. I just came back from a quike sprint to my kitchen for no good reason

Im still finding it hard to control my hyper-active behaviour. More so, its my lack of focus which has caused my a number of problems. Books a ton, I have laying around my house, of which I can never sit and read. This is the demon I have to overcome.

I'm a bit of an extremist in that I rarely even take something as simple as aspirin or tylenol for headaches, so you can guess how much I'm against this idea.

Too many people want the easy way that medication brings to mask whatever symptoms they have instead of looking at the reason those symptoms exist in the first place.

I agree. But we're discussing it here. When you're dicussing (read fighting) it with your wife, and the doctor, the teacher, the specialist, your in-laws, and get this, your parents, all think this the thing to do, not much there to go on. You feel like

So true. I try not to take any medication unless absolutely necesary. And that includes acetaminophen for headaches, which over time can hurt your liver. #ing side effects in todays medicine are even worse than the symptoms sometimes.

You should stand your ground and say enough is enough. Sometimes you have to protect people from themselves.

I knew that but still. Its #ing kids man. Pharmecutical companies are the work of SATAN!!!

Pfizer's slogan: Your life is our lifes work

More like: Pfizer: Your money is what we're after

You would not believe how many calls I get in the medical information department of people complaining that Pfizer does not care about people and they are just after money. DUH! It is a business just like everything else; they don't actually care about you.

Another thing I have noticed.
When I was being Diagnosed, I went through a series of tests, physical and mental to give my doctor a general basis of my level of intelligence.
I was given an Ad Hoc generalization, that I was not able to be on par with my peers. My parents were told that University was not an option and that I would be better off in a less " demanding" atmosphere.
This disgust me now that I look back. If one were to cosider the basic tenants of the test which consisted of a numerous amount of physcological questions, basic math, and english from which you are assessed and thrown into a denomination that makes on feel inferior. Believe you me, I felt as stupid as a rock, after this. I was told blatantly that I would not go very far education wise.
Though I can say, all these years later the opposite has occured.

Could not have said it better.

It is not that fact that bothers me though. No company actually cares about you; they are in it to make a profit. What bothers me is when they intentionally lie and try to make you think that they are your friend to earn your trust. Most of us all know this and aren't fooled by it, but is still makes me sad when some little old lady calls me at work crying because a company is discontinuing a product that she has been taking for years because it is not profitable enough to keep making it.

You're not alone in seeing that one Jonna. I work for an insurance company (please hold back the stoning until I get away from the new computer) and our slogan is "A Business of Caring" which is also utter crap. Pfizer is much the same way about everything, as they were turning things red around town here because of the pollutants they released into the air on a daily basis for years.
