Reporters say were threatened by Montel Williams

news.yahoo.com

The earlier interview ended after Scott asked Williams: "Do you think pharmaceutical companies would be discouraged from research and development if their profits were restricted?"

According to the reporters, Williams reacted angrily, saying:

"I'm trying to figure out exactly why you are here and what the interview is about. I'm here as a patient advocate talking about the fact that medications available today are saving people's lives, that's what's saving mine and after that, this interview is done."

The story in and of itself is not what drew my attention, but more of his reaction to the question that set him off. I think that it is a fairly reasonable question and I have to ask myself, "why did Montel get so mad?"

I have met Montel several times and he has been very pleasent each time, so the question must have really touched a nerve. My qestion is this? Is Montel be paid by the big phamacutucal companies to present some sort of softer side so their rape of society will seem less harsh? Any thoughts or am I just really reaching here.

Perhaps it was a side effect of his medication..

I don't think you can realistically limit profits of any company and still claim not to be socialists. The free market will determine prices and decide the profits, and the best you can do is provide relief for those that really can't afford but need the drugs.

Maybe he was just having a bad day as some people do. Or maybe, as a celebrity he was tired of interviews. I dunno. There could be a million reasons as to what set him off. According to Williams, the reporter was off topic. Kinda like if someone posts a completely off topic post in the wrong forum on ATS and it gets moved or deleted.

I watch Montel alot and he mentions his MS nearly every chance he gets - not that I blame him - he's trying to increase awareness. However, I think it is entirely conceivable; however implausible, that he plugs his illness and the medications that save his life for some sort of kick back. Who knows though, this kind of thing his happening everywhere. The world is leashed by a cruel cruel master.

Also, I thought I'd point out that the title of the thread is "Reporters say they were threatened by Montel Williams. I don't see in your story where he threatened them. Just says he got mad and ended the interview. Kinda misleading.

and I can look you up, find where you live and blow you up,'"

Maybe your grill was too bright and you couldn't read that last line.

Kleverone, did you post that part in the original post? Might be why it was questioned, if someone didn't check the link first.

Just a thought...

Montel is so irrelevant...

This guy is still searching for his first fifteen minutes of fame...

No one knows how many Americans have MS... But Montel seems to feel that he is the only one...

I've got no use for him...

It's actually in the story that is linked in the OP. It is the responsiblity of the member to read the article before posting an opinion. To confront ingnorace with knowledge by gathering all the information, is in effect denying it.

Possibly.

I think Montel's response is much like the response of a Heroin junky when told that heroin is a horrible thing.

Right on DINSTARR, I kinda got that same vibe. He just seems ultra-sensative in regards to that specific topic. It's almost as if he is scared of admition of what he already knows. Just a hypothesis, no theories

I have almost always had something better to do than watch Montel, but the few exposures I've had have led to the conclusion that he is a fraud and always has an agenda. I'm just not sure how often that agenda is simply ratings.

He's probably bought and paid for by who knows how many interests. I'm convinced many of his guests are actors paid to lie.

No big surprise on this end.

I lost the entire quarter ounce of respect I had for Montel after som video that was shown some years back of him being BLATANTLY racist toward us lowly and evil white folk and sayin something about how the black man should use us crackas to get all the money they can.

My first thought, at the time, was "Isn't he married to a cracka?"

Then I quickly realized that it was more blatant black on "anyone not black" bigotry and I just shuffled him back into the "non-entity" category.

Hmm, wonder if that clip is on youtube somewhere......I must go check.

As a side note,

Mike_b, your avatar scares the hell outta me. And how exactly does one become "crunk"?

Well I'm for it! I would imagine you have to take it out to eat though. I think I need to make a call to Paul Wall.

Not sure I can pull that off though.

Well, I guess in about 2 years when he learns to type and spell.
I must admit, most of my good threads are started at his suggestions. He was against me starting this particluar thread.

I'm inclined to believe Montel is being genuine here in his anger, and not as a result of kickbacks. I don't subscribe to the theory that anyone who doesn't share my views on issues must be doing it for an ulterior motive.
The fact is that businesses are for profit organizations. If they're going to assume risk in one area, they're gonna make sure they make it up in another(that is if they plan on staying in business). If there are no rewards, then there's no incentive to take risk, and I don't hold a grudge against pharmaceutical companies for making profits.
