As a long time photographer I can safely say there are many reasons for these type of anomalies which most of the time is not anything like ghost, etc.

Two questions...

Was it windy?
Do any of your friends smoke?

If yes to both...It could be ashes from a cigarette blown in front of the camera as it was taken.

Just a guess....
