"Second Life" A Game... Or Something More Sinister???

Topic started on 27-11-2007 @ 11:05 AM by HighDefinitionFilms

Some of you may have heard of SECOND LIFE... a sort of virtual world game...

I post this to ask a couple BASIC questions:

Have you heard about it, and/or played with it (or in it, I suppose)?

Do you think the whole LINDEN LABS thing could be a front for a nefarious
black op government program, trying to infiltrate groups and observe
social behavior in a controlled cyber-environment?

Please Google it all if you are not aware of what it is...

But I really want to know: do you think it is a simple harmless game like the SIMS
or something much more ambitious... and dangerous?

Thanks

i personaly think that it is the first step towards a real life MATRIX scenario - as its popularity increases, along with technology available to the public, sooner or later the public will not be able to distinguish what is real and what is fanciful.

just think about it, the bring our a nigh tech virtual reality headset that plugs into the program, you can talk and listen to the other characters in real time, a suit with pressure stimulation points that allow you feel whats going on, the currency part is already there.

It is a front to enslave weak minded people unhappy with their lives.

I think the potential for total control is high and people should be careful not to get engulfed by what the VR world can offer.

Worryingly, secondlife was also recently highlighted on the news here for allowing padeophiles to operate, there was clear evidence of users setting up special areas or rooms and swapping hardcore pornographic material.
I find it hard to accept that the moderators or programmers of this site are allowing this kind of thing to go on on an everyday basis although perhaps since it has been documented something will be done about it.

If you truly believe that this is possible - even in the distant future, but possible at all, what's keeping you from thinking that it hasn't already happened, and that you're in a simulation right now?

Not that I disagree with you, or that I think that we're all living in a Matrix-like dreamworld, but just think about the question. If your scope of vision can conceive of a virtual reality system that can totally fool the user into thinking they're experiencing something they're not, what's telling you that you're really experiencing this?

Sites like Second Life and games like The Sims allow the Powers That Be to collect more data and information. Information is power. They then "input" the data into simulated environments to determine which inputs result in which "outputs", outputs being desired behavior. In this way, they can control the emotions and behavior of the public at large as well as run an "odds are" type of game on world events. See links below for further explanations:
