I thought this quote from Khalid al-Mubarak was priceless, "“We don’t have any teddy bears over here, so in Sudan, for us, it is a fierce and dangerous animal,”

Khalid al-Mubarak, is a spokesman for the Sudanese Embassy in London,he told this to the BBC. He also stated, “The cultural background is very different. That is a very important point.”

I guess the Democrats & republicans are not the only masters of Spin.

this was from the Washington Post

removed pic of teddy bear in a T-shirt with a pic of Muhammad on it. Sorry for my lapse in judgement

If you want to see it and are not offended by it you can click here:
www.putfile.com...

If you mods think this pic is crossing the line feel free to remove it. I think I am denying ignorance & superstition. But I have been wrong before.
My Americanized Muslim friend didn't like it, but he also didn't threaten to kill me. He said Muhammad could take care of himself.

I appreciate you putting me in check in .01 seconds. My attempt at out-doing the disproportionate proposed penalty was in poor taste. I apologize.

However, I agree with you that she should be set free. I also concur that maybe she should have done a little more homework before going on this mission in the first place.

Seeing that she received only 15 days is terrific in my opinion. My understanding is that the 4-5 days she has already served in captivity will count toward the penalty. I would advise her to take the money and run! (ie serve the sentence and get the hell out of there) 10-15 days is a proverbial slap on the wrist as opposed to 40 lashes. (Those photos made me sick to my stomach, thanks.) I feel she will be able to recover emotionally and physically from this. (I hope)

Love, Peace and Soooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuulllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!

The Sudan Government is far from happy about the outcome of all this... "they wanted to make an example pf her" & I believe they still do.

15 Days in a Sudan Prison... A lot can happen in 15 days when your mixing with rapistss, murderers & thieves.

She is not out of the woods yet..!!

Even when she gets out, she will not be safe, because she has caused them great embarrassment.

She will not be safe untill she is back home in England.

Mate its not that you avoid killing innocents, its the fact that theres too much media around and you dont want the world too see you carpet bombing and dropping clusters on civillians like you did in Veitnam.

And the most funniest thing i find is that these fighters, insurgents or whatever you want to call them are fighting with the little they have against your millitary might. They got their crapy Aks which is about 50 years old and they got thier arab scarfs on with thier crapy old slippers. And they have managed to bring your millitary might to its knees and killed thousands of your soldiers.God sometimes i think if these guys had abit more training and better weapons they would wipe your armies clean.

Always remember its not how strong or how big your army is,its all about how motivated they are to fight for thier cause.Keep that in mind matey.

I tell you what they are muderers and paedophiles- most people killed in Iraq are civilians killed by OTHER MUSLIMS

MUSLIMS who behead other muslims, including babies, drill eyes out etc- so spare me the "ragged" heroes fighting the big bad west.

I hope this is a lesson to us all- misguided westerners, stay the hell out of these backward, despicable Islamic hell holes, and perhaps muslims, who find their interpretation of Islam incompatible with western civilisation and freedom, can piss off to hell holes like Sudan

these [snip] are about 500 years behind the rest of us- here in the UK our weak elite are pushing for new "hate" laws that would criminalise anyone who causes the slightest "offence" to some muslim.

These elite are pathetic cowards, nothing more than dhimmis

But what can we do? Brown hasn't got the balls to send in a military team to get her.

Sadly, Sudan is using this as a political football because we wish to end the genocide in Darfur. If Blair was still here, he would of been on TV now, thrown out the Sudan Ambassador to the UK, threaten sanctions or potential force.

...we REALLY shouldn't of sent Tony packing

These Muslims who are taking to the street in protest are being whipped into a frenzy by their clerics & imams. Google some pics of Sudanese jails/prisons and you will be shocked by the conditions this poor woman will have to endure.

Sudan is a hell hole by anyone's standards.

Other prisoners & guards will consider it their religious duty to torment, ridicule, and physically harm her if they have the opportunity. It don't look good for her. Don't count on the British government to do anything more than talk about the matter. It has emasculated itself and has neither the courage or fortitude to do anything concrete for this poor British citizen.

Too bad she is not closely related to someone in Parliment. Things might be different.

Agreed.

Brown is weak, hasn't even spoken about this. What an insult. If anything happens to this women, Britain should take military action (sadly, socialist Brown won't)

You are correct, our British government is spineless, more scared off offending Arab sensibilities and waffling about Islam being a religion of "peace", and trying to force through "hate" laws, than worrying about justice and truth.

THat being said, please let this be a warning to anyone wanting to "explore new cultures"- stay the hell out of Islamic countries, particularly ones with shariah legislation (it is a pity the sentiment doesn't work the other way with immigration into Europe)

grrr... im pretty sick of muslims... cause they just get worst under modern influence of rap and those dirty crap. For those who are defending Islam... plz ask your self these questions... Yes Christianity use to burn people at the stake for belasphemy and stuff like that but gone are those days. U dont see Christians suicide bombing the place and crap. But those Islamic nations haven't developed yet and ditched those ways... u might just say they are worst then Christianity a thousand years back during crusades. just imagine if the crusades succeeded and dominated the Islamic nations transforming them into Christian ruled nations. now back to the questions

Would u rather live in USA or a violent nation where islam is the dominant religion ?

If u were a woman would u want the rights and freedom normal woman all around the world have ?

Would u want the freedom to wear clothing other then their own law allows and not get killed by crazy extremist ?

Would the world be more peaceful if islam never existed ? seriosly...i wish every nation in the world is as good or better then australia... but argh.... still life is bad here with so much muslims. arrogant, always have a want to fight attitude.... dont like them one bit . So was there a plan to put muslims in camps or something ? i saw a thread about it or something.

generalising isn't a good thing.

All the muslim groups, including Muslim Council of Great Britain, has been VERY supportive and has even joined in to protest for her release. Sadly, the media is always focusing on extremists.

The bear was named after the most popular child in class. Why did none of the parents even care that the bear was named after a child in her class? Why was two months until one person at the school went to the police?

And there are still people who fully believe Gibbons needs to be executed over this damn bear!

news.yahoo.com...

KHARTOUM, Sudan - Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, rallied Friday in a central square and demanded the execution of a British teacher convicted of insulting Islam for allowing her students to name a teddy bear "Muhammad."

The protesters streamed out of mosques after Friday sermons, as pickup trucks with loudspeakers blared messages against Gillian Gibbons, the teacher who was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in prison and deportation. She avoided the more serious punishment of 40 lashes.

They massed in central Martyrs Square, outside the presidential palace, where hundreds of riot police were deployed, although they did not try to stop the rally."Shame, shame on the U.K.," protesters chanted.

They called for Gibbons' execution, saying, "No tolerance: Execution," and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad."

Brown is meant to be our head of government. He lacks the ability to be Prime Minister. Heck, David Cameron probabyl would of done something by now

www.dailymail.co.uk...

She will be incarcerated at the squalid Omdurman women's prison in Khartoum. The Omdurman prison where Mrs Gibbon will be locked up was built for 200, but now houses 1,200 women and 300 children, most of the adults jailed for illegally brewing alcohol.

are those the same muslims who did not take to the streets protesting all the brutality carried out in the name of their religion?

the same ones who failed to rise up over the abuses and carnage of women and children under their cultures standards?

might they be, also, the very ones who couldnt find the time to respond to the sectarian murders, violating the alleged muslim brand promise of convert or be killed?

well, if they're not the moderate, good muslims who do not support extremism, okay. but then, where are these mythical creatures?

are they in such small numbers as to be effectively non-existant?

spare me the "moderate muslims" nonsense, the MCB is infested with people who are extreme- they usually caveat their wordings with "we understand the actions, "Iraq " etc- many of them are saying any action is not justified because offence was not intended, ffs EVEN if offence was intended it is no justification- they need to get up to speed with the last several hundred years
