The first is why are obscene images now considered art?

What is obsene to one, isnt to another.

Also, nude pictures have been around for hundreds of years - as art. So this isnt new.

If one doesnt like it...dont look. Its like turning the channel on TV

Plus...when did the human body become obsene? The human body is a beautiful thing!

Actually the art was to the imagination because the genitalia was covered so actually the complain is actually about a dome covering a genital area.

so this guy is mad that he didn't get to see the good part

My opinion is that this could be turned into a *they offend islam so we will attack them and since the us is near maybe a bomb will go off in us soil giving the us the right to bomb the crap out of iran type deals*.

look I don't know if anyone has found the picture yet, but it sounds like it is not a T & C violation. Can a mod or someone who knows what ATS rules are for Art as Opposed to Pornography post a link to the image??? or at least pass it by Simongray, SO, or Springer and see if they will allow an exception.

To be quiet frank I can't decide whether to laugh or cry over this... mainly because I haven't seen the piece of artwork.

I mean if this is a dome with thighs under it this is just sad... talk about looking for trouble.

If it is risque and shows female genitalia then this is Hilarious, Because it causes me to picture the ambassador lying down with his wife... all hot and bothered.

and then he see her genitals and decides they should be banned...

people who cannot separate religion and art understand neither.

Edit to add the smell of periwinkles...

Actually been a woman that is a very troublesome thought and opinion cming from you, but I was rather trying to see what was soo facinating about the artist pictures that is creating a national incident.

I believe I am not more curious than the rest.

I am just having fun with your post also
but trust me the though of looking in the internet for pictures of Genitalia is just . . . I may say . . . well you get my meaning.

But anything in the name of art.

I remember when I was in art class......back in jr high or high

There was a nude painting of a woman on a whole door...

I thought it was porno...

Lol, others stared at me, as it was a joke (or was it?)

I just realized I didn't even bother to read the story I was commenting on. I apologize for my utter stupidity... I thought we were talking about a nude drawing of ahmadinejad with a dome covering his genitalia.

Sorry for the confusion.

LOL Hysterical Marge.

I know we're not suppose to be silly on the news posts, but the whole story is just so ridiculous. Then when I envisioned thousands of reporters, bloggers, and posters hunched over their computers seaching for this image, LOL, its beyond words.

Can't wait to see video covering the Mexican State Department investigating the image. Seeing them trying to keep a straight face. Passing the picture around while feigning outrage and demanding reform. Its cracking me up.

Makes me wonder what the aliens think of us when they see stuff like this.

This is ridiculous.

I think the best answer to this is an Episode of South Park called CARTOON WARS. It pretty much nails the whole issue on the head, while poking fun at Family Guy.

I would like to let you know that there had been similar cases that maybe not published by international media, but reflected widely in iran. For example some ahmadinejad advisors participate in cermonies in Turkey and Qatar in them there were some dancing by females. Some extremist media inside iran blamed those guys severly for participating/not leaving the cermonies.
In this Mexico exhibit case, as Mr.Ambassador had already known about that, he tryied to show his objection loudly so as to not to be blamed by in house media , and as i mentioned before out of flattery to his leaders.
About making a "fuss", i do not think so. they have enough troubles in international relations at present to avoid making new issues like this. this story did not even published by local media, only by some dissident news websites based in the us / europe.

Thanks so much for giving us your take on this, being Iranian you probably understood what this incident was all about from the begining, unlike many of us that have commented on it here. I'm glad to hear that, in your opinion, this was just the somebody trying to keep his political career alive, and not something that is going to become some major incident.

It's so easy for people (myself included) to hear something like this and just blow it all out of proportion. Our cultures are very different and so we see things in a different way.

I hope you stick around ATS and can help us understand these sort of incidents when they come up. Your opinion/insight on this incident is very much appreciated.

If it offends him, he should leave the country right then and there. No need for him to stay around. I am sure the ARTIST is offended by him - I know I would be - I would be asking the Mexican government to expel everyone from Iran immediately and not to let them back in unless they apologize for their disrespect and discourteousness. It is important to respect other countries and other people - if you can not do that, then do not visit anyone. Common courtesy.
