--------- Note to MODS

The description was meant to be:

A report named 'Vela Network Evaluation and Automatic Processing Research' concerning improvements in seismic monitoring and data processing.

Could the field be fixed in the original post and this post deleted.

Awesome – another Document “for free” on ATS - Storming Media charges $20+ for it

Abstract: Work performed on Contract Number F08606-76-C-0011 has been reported in detail in a series of ten technical reports. This final report summarizes the material covered in each of the technical reports and discussed the conclusions obtained. The four tasks in the program included the following: Evaluate available data from the Iranian Long Period Array (ILPA) and the Seismic Research Observatories (SRO), and evaluate the detection capability of the Korean Seismic Research Station (KSRS) using an optimum seismic detector; Evaluate the detection capability of a global seismic network of arrays, and determine the effectiveness of an adaptive beam forming algorithm as a short- period (SP) detector applied to off-line beam SP KSRS data; Determine the improvements in long-period signal estimation by cascading previously developed techniques; and Evaluate the discrimination capability of an expanded interactive graphics system for the PDP-15 computer.

In a nutshell:

The discrimination between Earthquakes and Nuclear Events

This document, dated 29 October 1976, consisted of the following tasks:
•Data evaluation from the following stations:
The Iranian Long Period Array (ILPA)
Seismic Research Observatories (SRO)
Korean Seismic Research (KSRS) for detection capability

•To evaluate detection capability of a global seismic network of arrays and determine the effectiveness of an adaptive beamforming algorithm used as a short –period detector

•To determine the improvements in long-period signal estimation by cascading previously developed techniques – developing seismic filters and designing a long-period adaptive filter

•Evaluate the discrimination capability of an expanded interactive graphics system (computer)

On PFD page 17: Evaluation of tests that show that this project was still in it’s ‘baby stage’ (Encountered problems and the need for some “fine tuning”)

This document has been taken in consideration for the Vela incident (Alert 747).
