Wow, this is the first I`ve heard of paper on the end of the drillbit... that actually enrages me! What were they thinking?! Once again, these people who have plenty to eat and clothing on their backs and a place or 2 to live already have ruined another great thing for us in their blind pursuit of MORE... I really was not coming here to this thread to be reminded again of things of that nature... I`m not even gonna say anything else...

Reminds me of the Novel "Riptide" by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child.
In it, the pirate is called "Red Ned Ockham" and he had buried his treasure at the Oak Island Pit. Among the treasure was a Sword known as St. Michael's Sword, which was made up of some kind of radio active material.

Nova Scotia to repeal Treasure Trove Act

Nova Scotia is putting an end to all underwater commercial treasure hunting along its coast in a move aimed to prevent the loss of the province's marine heritage. The government said Wednesday it would introduce legislation in the fall to repeal the Treasure Trove Act. Enacted in 1954, the law governs treasure hunting on famed Oak Island on the province's south shore. The scope of the original act was subsequently expanded to cover the licensing of shipwreck salvage operations off the coast. www.ctv.ca...

So new developments...do we take it at face value and accept that the province is trying to protect marine archaeology?

Or is there a deeper reasoning? The law was enacted to deal with Oak Island...perhaps it was repealed for the same reason. The mystery continues.

Honestly, this story....It reminds me of the "Chasing the Dragon" clip on South Park.

Keep digging. LOL...it is in there somewhere.

The Portuguese were in that area long before Columbus...

Since the beginning of Atlantic maritime history,
the Portuguese claimed
that their ancestors reached the New World
ahead of Spain’s champion--Christopher Columbus.
Now, a recently re-discovered Portuguese map
from 1436 confirms this claim.
Hidden away in Chicago’s Newberry Library
for over 30 years, the Atlantic portolan chart
by Andrea Bianco clearly shows
the peninsula of Florida
almost a century before it was officially named
by Ponce de Leon

Deeper reasoning... deeper reasoning!!!

Good news or bad news first... well good news then.

At last, after a few years wait.... the treasure licence has been granted

This allows them to continue their search for treasure on Oak Island, I'd like to think the signing of the petition helped, but thats just a conspiracy (and illusions of grandeur).

The bad news... the long delayed licence is only temporary and runs out in DECEMBER this year.

After this date, the Nova Scotian Department of Natural Resources/Tourism, Culture and Heritage will impose the new Oak Island Act, details of which have yet to be announced.

www.oakislandtreasure.co.uk...

So delay the licence by two years (when it should take weeks) and then grant it with less then 6 months to go, until they change the laws and acts so they have to apply again. Taking JohnnyCanuck's post, above, into account... conspiracy???

Well anyway, at least they have it for now.. as for what they can do in that time I'm not sure... anyone?

Not that I don't want to know thats there, but the old saying curiosity killed the cat, some one, or some thing took the time, labor and skill to hide somthing that they didnt want anyone to get to. Should be clear inditation that we shouldnt be meddaling. Its like a begining of a bad sci fi or horror movie. What if we un earth somthing that will seal our doom?

If a government (any goverment) thought there was anything worth digging up on Oak Island they would have leveled the place. The reason so many countries are putting laws in place is so they can keep treasure found in the seas.

Just adding an interesting clip taken from the History Channels "Holy Grail in America". I'm sure lots of people here have seen this already but for those that haven't....

Part 6 of the documentary deals with Oak Island and puts the Templars in this area.

I'm sure the money pit is the work of the Templars... as for it being the site of the Holy Grail I very much doubt but I still think it must hold or at one time held something very important.

No news on the dig still and the treasure licence runs out in 12 or so days... so much for Oak Island giving up it's secrets soon huh.

I've read a couple of books about the Money Pit and I'm very doubtful that there's anything there at all or even if there really ever was.

When the 2 boys found the depression in the ground in the 1700's (?) the claim was that there was a block and tackle hanging from the tree above, I cant imagine that the block and tackle had survived there since Templar days and it certainly seems to have had something to do with the pit.

I think that the Island has probably become a 'hot potato' and once the land owners realise their mistake in spending such ridiculous sums of money on nothing the only way they can retrieve any of their lost investment would be to continue perpetrating the 'myth' that there's treasure on that there island. There are always fools out there willing to part with their money. Certainly if they had got to the bottom of the money pit and found zilch they have nothing to gain but everything to lose by admitting it.

so your thinking is that they made up the boards every 10 feet or whatever and that they made up the tunnel traps leading to the ocean at around 150+ feet?

If all of that is not true i could see it being possibly nothing, but because of those two "facts" (which i don't know if they are) it seems like there is something interesting there.

You mean to say that 'some believe that the Portuguese were in that area long before Columbus'. No proof has been provided.

Your Gunnar Thompson is also apparently a proponent of Gavin Menzies and his Chinese 1421 story...which is heavily refuted on several sites, including: www.1421exposed.com.... But in the piece you cite, he states...

If we keep in mind that determination of geographic coordinates was not a precise science in 1436, and if we realize that the placement of the southeastern peninsula on this map is consistent with the location of Florida on early 16th-century maps, then we must realize that representation of Florida is a distinct possibility.

Which is to say that not even he is willing to speak with the certitude you muster up.

Here's another take on Thompson's credibility...

In their attempts to prove themselves legitimate members of the scholarly community, Mr. Liu and Dr Thompson also began frequent communications to the MapHist list in April and May, putting forward claims about the (Menzies/Liu) map and its veracity.... These two gentlemen left the list as quickly as they appeared when it became apparent that the many map historians and other specialists on the list required some basic evidence for the claims being made. mailman.geo.uu.nl...

So, he can't seem to convince his peers. You do that by providing a trail that others can follow and allows them to come to a similar conclusion. You've made a bold statement with no follow up...therefore we are not in a position to accept your word as truth. Same problem Thompson apparently has.

All I'm saying is that there were likely other Europeans visiting North America between the Norse and Columbus but there is no proof thus far...though I was told at Red Bay, Labrador that there's a likely contact point.

And certainly no apparent connection between Oak Island and the Portuguese.
edit on 19-12-2010 by JohnnyCanuck because: of a missing citation, and we know we must cite our quotations.

Is it confirmed that there is radioactivity coming from the pit, or is it only ever mentioned by those who think the ark is there and that it must emmit radioactivity?

I am not so sure of a coverup, they have only been digging for forever.

I know this is an old topic, but oh well, here goes nothing

my solution

1. collapse the water tunnels, or, at a greater expense, build a wall around the island, sandbags could be acceptable

2 pump out water

3.dig, dig, dig

Actually yes, as far as I'm aware its never been proven that the 'tunnel traps' were anything other than natural occurrences. As for the other finds from the money pit yes I do believe that they have been either falsified at worst or mistakenly identified at best.

They have found some items down there already, that are interesting to say the least. I don't have time to list these out at the moment but will later if you want, or if you start at the beginning of this thread and read through, it should give you an idea of what they've found to date.

As for proof of what is still down there, I'm afraid not, but people are still looking, it's just very hard to get down there.
