Did you pay attention at all to the President's speech Sept 2001? He never once said, "we are only going after those who committed this crime" He said that if you were a terrorist or a terrorist state that meant to cause us harm, we were coming.

Saddam trained terrorists, paid terrorists and gave refuge to terrorists (including members of Al Qaeda), so we went after him.

Oh yeah, Al queda....that was a large organisation...

I thought it was WMD's? I must have been fed lies. No, it was the terrorists and Al Queda. Wheres the evidence? Wow, its so easy to LIE to people and have it accepted as reality.

Careful now, those phantom enemies are coming. Just like the Cold war. And in the spirit of the cold war, we gonna make some stuff up and have it accepted as the truth. A policy of lies sponsored by the state with a large PR campaign.

No, however it is easy to create lies like that and spread them as truth when the WMD argument is found to be fabricated and void.

A brief rundown taken from this link of this rather comprehensive history of how the CIA created (funded, gave refuge, provided weapons to) al qaeda (the base) and Osama Bin Laden:

In April 1978, the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) seized power in Afghanistan in reaction to a crackdown against the party by that country's repressive government.

The PDPA was committed to a radical land reform that favoured the peasants, trade union rights, an expansion of education and social services, equality for women and the separation of church and state. The PDPA also supported strengthening Afghanistan's relationship with the Soviet Union.

Between 1978 and 1992, the US government poured at least US$6 billion (some estimates range as high as $20 billion) worth of arms, training and funds to prop up the mujaheddin factions. Other Western governments, as well as oil-rich Saudi Arabia, kicked in as much again. Wealthy Arab fanatics, like Osama bin Laden, provided millions more.

“The Americans were keen to teach the Afghans the techniques of urban terrorism — car bombing and so on — so that they could strike at the Russians in major towns ... Many of them are now using their knowledge and expertise to wage war on everything they hate.”

Bin Laden only became a “terrorist” in US eyes when he fell out with the Saudi royal family over its decision to allow more than 540,000 US troops to be stationed on Saudi soil following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. ... He declared that Saudi Arabia and other regimes — such as Egypt — in the Middle East were puppets of the US, just as the PDPA government of Afghanistan had been a puppet of the Soviet Union.

Ah yes, another one who needs educated....

Doesnt fund terrorism?

“President Saddam Hussein has recently told the head of the Palestinian political office, Faroq al-Kaddoumi, his decision to raise the sum granted to each family of the martyrs of the Palestinian uprising to $25,000 instead of $10,000,”

Tariq Aziz, Iraq Deputy Prime Minister

Doesnt train terrorists?

Ravi Nessman, “Marines capture camp suspected as Iraqi training base for terrorists.” Associated Press, April 6, 2003, 4:14 p.m. EST.

This camp is specialized in exporting terrorism to the whole world. Training includes hijacking and kidnapping of airplanes, trains, public buses, and planting explosives in cities ... how to prepare for suicidal operations.”

Sabah Khodada, former Iraqi army captain who worked at Salmon Pak, in an interview with "Frontline" on PBS, October 14, 2001.

He also had this to say:

We saw people getting trained to hijack airplanes...They are even trained how to use utensils for food, like forks and knives provided in the plane.

Training people how to use table knives to hijack a plane....hmmmm.....

Didnt give refuge to terrorists?

Abdul Rahman Yasin, wanted in connection with the bombing of the WTC in 1993.

Sheila McVicar of ABC News had this to say about Abdul...

“Last week, [television program] Day One confirmed [Yasin] is in Baghdad…Just a few days ago, he was seen at [his father’s] house by ABC News. Neighbors told us Yasin comes and goes freely.”

Sheila MacVicar, “‘America’s Most Wanted’ – Fugitive Terrorists.” ABC News’ “Day One,” July 27, 1994

Abbu Abbas hijacker of the Achille Lauro, captured by US forces in Baghdad.

Bettino Craxi, former prime minister of Italy at the time of the Achille Lauro hijacking, had this to say about Abbu...

Abu Abbas was the holder of an Iraqi diplomatic passport…The plane was on an official mission, considered covered by diplomatic immunity and extra-territorial status in the air and on the ground

United Press International, untitled dispatch by Rome, Italy correspondent, Paula Butturini. October 14, 1985. Cited in Paul Crespo, “Evidence Supports That Hussein Had Strong Links With Terrorists,”

Interestingly, after Craxi's government let Abbas go, his coalition fell apart and he was forced from office.

Saddam didnt cooperate with Al Qaeda?

Abu Musab al Zarqawi, and we know who he is, was treated at a hospital run by Uday Hussein for wounds he suffered in Afghanistan.......will finish this post later.......

Then there is the curious case of Abu Nidal.....

Abu Nidal, after his escapades in the 70s and 80s came to live in Baghdad as a guest of Saddam Hussein. Reportedly, he was an instructor at Salmon Pak terrorist training camp. For those not alive or who dont remember, Abu Nidal helped perfect the art of hijacking airliners.

Around the time that the US started talking about invading Iraq, Abu Nidal was executed on Saddam Hussein's orders.....dead men tell no tales about training Mohammed Atta..............

The London Sunday Telegram, Dec. 14, 2003 edition, carried an article by Con Coughlin which discussed Iraqi government documents found after the US invasion. One of the communiques discussed was one from Tahir Jalil Habbush al-Tikriti, former head of the Iraqi Intelligence Service to Saddam Hussein. It said in part...

Mohammed Atta, an Egyptian national, came with Abu Ammer and we hosted him in Abu Nidal's house at al-Dora under our direct supervision.

We arranged a work program for him for three days with a team dedicated to working with him...He displayed extraordinary effort and showed a firm commitment to lead the team which will be responsible for attacking the targets that we have agreed to destroy

Granted, it doesnt specify what the targets were, but we know what target that Mohammed Atta did destroy on Sept. 11, 2001......

I know, I know...I can hear it coming..."the memo was forged" "How do you know its real?" blah blah blah...

Maybe the memo isnt true...but answer this, why, after several years of living in Iraq as a guest of Saddam Hussein, was Abu Nidal executed? (yes I know, the original story was he committed suicide.....but HOW do you shoot yourself in the back of the head four times?) Or if Saddam was set on getting rid of terrorists, why was Abbu Abbas (and others) still alive when we found him (them)?

My original point still stands; the reason for going "after him" was WMD's, the terrorists bit was some after added sauce. Funny how this evidence pops up after the event. Isn't it the winner of wars that writes the history books?

And check the link I posted, or is it only when someone you don't like funds terrorism do you stand up and be counted?

Umm, you really should go back and read the President's speeches....And the majority of the evidence about Saddam's connections to terrorism was public long before we invaded.....
