What is it though? It looks like an area bubbled up with pressure, the surface ripped and settled back down, showing the rip and stretch marks. Bizzare.

But seriously, it really loosks as if the whole surface has been burning or rather boiling. I've seen similar effects with cakes when they are baked in the oven.

Isn't that the whole point with a sign, that you don't have to be there all the time. Think about what hell we would have had if there was standing a prince on every streetcorner and a cop inside every car. Just wouldn't have worked.
