I think you make excellent and accurate points about the tendencies of so many posters on ATS as to leave the aire, the gestalt, the feeling, impression, spirit, detected attitudes to be

well in the ball park of great hostility toward Christianity and even Christians who dare to brave the flack enough to post their views and beliefs here.

I notice it took all of the 2nd post to your OP for someone to start calling Christianity MIND CONTROL etc.

It gets exceedingly wearying to put up with it. My relationship with Christ colors all I do, think and am and certainly the screen I view reality through.

Consequently, I may have a comment that may include that perspective's view on almost any UFO type thread as well as many others--because I see SPIRITUAL issues involved inherently.

The hostily that ALWAYS triggers is fierce, virtually instant; almost all pervasive etc.

It seems that Christians--authentic, balanced, truly spiritual Christians would just rather avoid such flack and bother elsewhere. That's certainly how I feel. Why walk on nails and endure relentless arrows just to post an opinion and perspective that 98% of others seem hostile to. We aren't that much masochists. Christ died for us. We don't need to die on the crosses the hostile are so eager to nail us to.

I don't know that there's a solution. I think it's important for the authentic, truly spiritual Christian perspective to be put forward here on all threads it is the least bit relevant on. OTHER PERSPECTIVES DO WITH GREAT FIERCENESS AND ABANDON. WE HAVE AS MUCH RIGHT AS THEY--though they try and frame things 100% otherwise.

I think it would take a larger staff of mods with more fair-mindedness on THEIR PARTS toward Christianity to make a difference. And that's part of the problem. Some of the mods are fiercely hostile to Christianity THEMSELVES--seemingly with utter impunity. That gets extremely wearying and off-putting.

Am glad you started this thread. It's an issue that needs a thorough discussion.

Blessings,

Wow, you just totally expressed why so many people equivocate christianity with brain washing.

Why not think for yourself without a screen? Its impossible to look at anything without bias in a logical, reasonable fashion if you adopt any sort of "screen" other than your own common sense.

I know the fluffy feelings Christ gives you are hard to part with, just like the feeling of your bed, blankets, and pillows in the morning. You dont want to leave your warm little zone, but eventually you have to get up and face the day.

I wonder if Lasek would change anything?

Great post! Funny as Hell (or the idea of it ahahahah)

Ugh.... have you been reading my posts or is your comprehension really that poor?

I never once said, or even came close to insinuating that you have to be an atheist or believe in nothing to "wake up". I totally support spirituality and the idea of a creator. What I object to is others (especially barbarians from the first century) dictating what or how I should believe in anything. When I say "wake up" I refer to looking past ancient ideologies designed to control and manipulate other people under the guise of love.

And as for atheists, IMO anyone who has the courage to look outside of the mainstream religions deserves some kudos.

Barbarians from the 1st century? Uh, Christianity didn't begin its dominance until 325 A.D after the Nicean council.. The inquistion was largely in the 11th and 12th century.. I really don't know where you're coming off blaming the first century Christians for anything. I suggest you read about 1st and 2nd century Christians before you start degrading them

As for my "comprhension," my comprhension is fine. You keep referencing a very well known atheists' book as if you admire the man or something, so the LOGICAL conclusion is that you too must have atheistic tendencies. I have never read one of his books and have no intentions of ever doing so... What's that tell ya?

Inquisition

Why call first century Christians "barbarians" for things that didn't occur until the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries? That makes absolutely no sense in the slightest.

Icon, by the way, you do realize that Dawkins is an "Atheist for Jesus" right? I personally think he is agood man, but I don't agree with his ideology, though I don't dismiss his theories out of hand..

As has been pointed out previously Christianity was but one of a number of competing religions which all influenced or borrowed liberally off each other myth wise. Christianity won out, at least in Europe and you want to know what gave it that edge, it was the religion of women and slaves, it preached love and compassion, forgiveness etc all the qualities we tend to associate with the feminine, it taught that even the lowest slave was equal in the eyes God. For it's time it was a pretty enlightened belief system and remains so in it's purest form. I don't think it makes sense to say we know sone very nice Christians but hate the actual religion any more than you can say you know some very nice nazi's or suicide bombers but hate what they believe in. The flaws in Christianity lay in how man, imperfectly and based on his own wants and desires interpreted and twisted the message, find me one 'ism' socialism, capitalism, atheism that isn't subject to the same inherant flaw. A pound to a penny if Wicca had been the religion that won out we would now be railing against human sacrifices carried out in the past in the name of religion and cultish head hunting practices etc. It's us who are lousy people, face it, blaming it on religion is as much hiding in your own comfort zone as those who follow the bible word for word.

Grimholt:
Are you really so dense, that you don’t understand some Levitical law as opposed to modern law? Or are you just trying to make some point regarding homosexuality?
There has been no sacrifice since 70AD. Are you unaware of this?
Or are you just trying to use Hebrew law to make some point.
That you would send on this letter to Dr Laura Schlessinger, which has been, well, torn to shreds in terms of context and actual meaning, and some time ago……this is not new, nor is it news. Come on, is there a new thing you have out there?
I see by your avatar that you are one who has a certain ….hmmmmm, point of view. As I said above…make a new one, come up with something new. The issues you are raising are not new. The same discussion has been going on for over 1700 years. And you think you have a NEW argument? Please……come up with something original.

There's no need for the personal attack.

People blindly extolling extremist views, be they christian or muslim are difficult to be around. That post was made by some guy called Jim.

By the way if you judge everyones religious beliefs by the avatar they have on ATS you would come up with some very whacky religions.

My avatar is a picture of a vampire that I did in photoshop. Does that make me a Satanist...you may think so. I would not.

I have an open mind about the different religions currently active at the moment.

So chill out friend.

Really? Which ones? Who was the equal to the Christos? Who else was spoken of by the prophets for hundreds of years prior to His birth? Who else was described in detail before He was ever born... his life, ministry, death?

The life and teachings of the Christ, mythological?

Friend, you obviously have no real historical evidence to back you up. You are merely regurgitating spurious information you have been fed. Probably by some college professor. It wouldn't surprise me if at some point in your life you actually believed in Jesus, the Christ......but someone, I don't really know who, ruined it for you.

I have been reading this thread with awe. The number of folks who seem to have a ...well...a death wish for the followers of the Christ. You all use the term "Christians" as if these Christians were wanting to rule the world, or take away your fun, or keep you from living your lives the way you want.

Come on, lets go toe to toe. Give me one of your POVs and I will send one back. Ready? Lets go, I am waiting and ready.

Sir yes sir.

Why do you christians hate so much?

And what happened to THINK CRITICALLY?

I have met better christians in my time and they were budists. They live truer to the meaning of christianity then most christians I've come across.

They are humble, they do not bash, belittle or place themselves above others.

What I really cannot stand is the fear propagation of some new age christianity and the smugness of those in the "know" who have instilled into their flock a sense of supremacy or divine rightiousness.

To me they are further away from the truth of what they supposedly believe in.

There is no humility, there is pride, this is the new age fad of Televised Christianity with your rock concerts and flapping about and fainting. Hogwash. Jesus would spit chips. He'd bring down your so called temples...he'd be pissed.

Well, while I am not anti-Christian, stating the obvious. I do think that the Abrahamic religions do have an agenda that is not particularly kosher...

I suggest you take a look at this thread to better grasp my view of the current world situation... After all, you have brought up the "ruling of the world" bit...

Thread

Am I angry? You bet.

“That post was made by some guy called Jim.” What? The letter the Dr Laura was not posted by you?

And I did not make a religious determination based on your avatar, I made a judgement based on your avatar. Like when my daughter brings home some guy with tattoos on his face and piercings in his lips and eyebrows. Yeah, I am going to make a judgment of him. Your avatar makes me think of EVIL. A picture of Dorian Grey, some Ann Rice character.

Open mind? Dude, you don’t know me, but the picture I show to the public says one thing, and the picture you show to the public says another.

You are obviously proud of your service..good for you. It may impress some people...perhaps not.

Your judgement is close minded, especialy about your daughter. If she is bringing home guys like that then you might not want to dismiss them so quickly. Surely you have instilled in your daughter the ability to judge a person not on face value but on the person actions? There are a lot of scum bags in the world posing as fine upstanding citizens. It's my experience it's the rough looking guys that are the first to lend you a hand.

But then again judging is what good christians like yourself were put on the planet to do now wasn't it?

My point about this thread is that the Christians are thier own worst enemies and draw alot of negative reaction from people who may have been open to their faith except for the way the christians handle themselves.

"Sir yes sir.
Why do you christians hate so much?”

Hate who? You? I don’t even know you. All I know is your Avatar.

You dont get it do you?
Folks are judged by the way they put themselves out to others.

So what if my girls boyfriend has tats and holes. The last one was a cool kid. But he had to show me that, and he did.
But you Mr Vampire, have shown me nothing but bias. Why not put your day face on instead of your alter-ego, your vampire self.

I have not bashed, belittled or put myself above you.
As a matter of fact I have not even said “Í am a Christian”, all I have done is made some defense.
