My whole family lives in St. Charles Parish and my adult daughter lives in Jefferson Parish. They were all there at the time (although my daughter did manage to get to Dallas to stay with me) and because of area, their homes received actual hurricane wind damage and no flooding. My initial thought on flooding caused by the (Army CoE) levee failure was, "Somebody's getting a prime piece of convention area at the end of this." The reports I've heard from the first responders (people I've known my entire life) were of federal ineptitude and interference.

Admittedly there were some freeloading jackasses, but that is the nature of the welfare system. It's designed to make people dependent.

I pretty much agree with your entire post with exception of a small quibble. Katrina was not a Cat 5 at landfall, www.usatoday.com... _x.htmit was a Cat 3. Again, it's just a quibble as there's no way FEMA would have been prepared for a 5 so your statement is technically correct but could appear misleading.

Edited to correct hyperlink. I'm new to these here parts.

I have to throw this out here. I am a contractor for the government and after Katrina hit I went to New Orleans. I also went to Pass Christian Mississippi, Long Beach Mississippi, Gulfport Mississippi, and Biloxi Mississippi. I saw just as much devastation if not more from Katrina in the Mississippi towns. In Gulfport and Biloxi all of the Casinos were gone along with everything for miles inland. The flooding added hurt to New Orleans, but the actual hurricane hit other areas just as hard if not harder. I saw it first hand. It gets so frustrating to hear rediculous conspiracies about Katrina and New Orleans. people saying President Bush hates black people and that the government blew the damn to kill blacks is rediculous. There were tons of black people that lost everything in Gulfport, and the other areas. The difference is that over a third of New Orleans was on welfare. Why do you suppose that is? I could give some theories about it but it would just cause anger and there's no point.

"Racially Inflammatory Rumors Delivered as Fact"

"Forum member Larry Kesterson, staff photographer of the Philadelphia Inquirer, referenced the supposed rape of a six year old female in the Superdome as being entirely fabricated."

" According to musician Kanye West, "You see a black family, it says, 'They're looting.' You see a white family, it says, 'They're looking for food." This quote illustrates the quality of the situation, wherein various roles and designations where given to certain groups of "refugees" by the media. "

And of course there were all those looting black folk shooting at helocopters too! Yeah, these tall tales regarding African American "behavior" after Katrina, are alive and well, currently being used as ammo to sure up support for anti-Obama setiment also with claims of black rioting if he does not win! It is set up this way so we DON'T ask the real questions like why are our civil libertities so easily discarded following a disaster such as Katrina and WHERE THE HELL WAS FEMA! I do agree with the last post on the point of New Orleans was not the only place to get hit! We never hear about anywhere else and you are completely correct portions of coastal Mississippi were descimated! Again that is because we keep people's attention on things like all the looting in New Orleans while meanwhile they are not paying attention to the fact that FEMA is doing an EVEN worse job there!

It is sad that so many of the people in this country are sheep! You know why I am going to vote for Obama because he is NOT a republican! I know that is wrong but I cannot get over the last 8 years! I am a VERY BITTER WOMAN!
