ISS or UFO?

While camping in October, me and my friends captured this.

Keep in mind, I have a HD-SR1 video camera running on a tripod waiting to catch something....so when I heard my friend say "we got a mover" I grabbed it and focused it based on their directions.

I've never seen the ISS, but I didn't expect it to look like this.

Curious what your input is on whether this truly was the ISS or something else.

I'm assuming that you intended to post something but neglected to add the link/image/embedded video/etc. I'm waiting to see it.

Just post the link to youtube if you use the youtube video feature of ats, use just the letters and numbers on the end of the url

Take that back.....looks like the ISS after reviewing more video.......

It says in the video description that you determined it was the ISS. Starting this thread was misleading.

We researched where the ISS should have been at this time at it coincided...however, the speed that it was moving created some questions as to whether it was the ISS.

My question was those that are familiar with the ISS and whether or not this video is consistent with what it should look like, and that was the subject of the post.

Nothing misleading here.

The speed of the object is consistent with the ISS flyover window. It can take less than a minute and up to four minutes to pass overhead.

When I saw the ISS it looked like a small star in the sky and it moved in a straight line.I couldn't tell from the video if it moved in a straight line,but it seemed bigger than the sighting I had of the ISS.

Thank you for your response--I'm curious if you or any others have any links to video that shows what rhw ISS should look like?

The birds, lanterns, ISS, satellite, etc..., are always presented--but if we had an inventory of what these typically look like, that would help--maybe there is already a sticky thread at ATS that has this?

Any other feedback on this?

ISS

It's a mover, alright. Here's a recent track from London where it goes from 73° to 10° altitude in three minutes and six seconds, crossing over half the sky's hemisphere in the process.

Thanks for the reference video--it definitely looks similar.

Looking back, I don't know why I took the camera off the tripod--I guess the excitement causes you to react irrationally. That would have been a great shot...next time.

Based on feedback I'm now convinced it was the ISS.

It looks like to me a bright light in a very dark sky.

Here is a cropped picture showing an ISS pass on 10-26-07. Believe it was docked with the STS at the time.

ISO cranked up to 320, F2.2 for 20 secs. This was 45 minutes after sunset.

It's pretty bright if one is in a dark location. Adding the shuttle doesn't change the brightness much. It's no quite as bright as the brightest stars. I watched them pass for 3 or 4 nights at the beginning of the mission.



The brightest regular object passing over here is the HST. It's really stands out.

Its was very cool. I have seen satellites before and generally they are not that bright and nor do they flash like that. Could have been a combination of elements that threw me the first time I watched it. It must have made for a great campfire tale that night!
