Nova Discovered in Puppis

Alfredo Jose Serra Pereira of Carnaxide, Portugal, has discovered a nova in the constellation Puppis during a visual search with 14 x 100 binoculars. He spotted the new star on Nov. 14, 2007, near 5:30 Universal Time and estimated its magnitude as 7.0.

Novae and Supernovae are a common, but usually unnoticed unless you are looking at the particular area of the sky. If you go out and look and see this (you can with binoculars), you will be seeing the birth of new atoms and the components for everything we are composed of. A nova is the mother event of worlds and life in the universe.

It is a birthday of sorts, and deserving of our attentions.
