Does anyone remember, back in 2001 when Senator Gary Condit was being investigated for the dissapearance of his former intern Chandra Levy?

He at first denied having an affair, but was proven to be lieing.
He refused to answer questions, dodged the media.
He got caught trying to dispose of some evidence related to the case in a dumpster.

Then 9/11 happened and the case completely dissapeared from the headlines. Aparantly, he got to keep his seat in the senate and was even privy to some of the more sensitive info regarding 9/11.

I always thought that he was a scum bag and it is pretty frustrating to see someone like this get away free and clear.

"After an extensive search, Levy's remains were discovered May 22, 2002, by a man hunting for turtles with his dog in a secluded area of Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C. That month, a medical examiner officially declared that Levy's death was the result of homicide. As of October 2007, the case remains unsolved."

en.wikipedia.org...
The guy is scum with a lot of skeletons in his closet.

I remember it very well..

I hate it when cases go cold like this and murderers go free... I can't say 100% that he did it, but in my opinion he needed a lot more investigation before assigning this to a cold case..

Probably some money and influence going on there...

Yes I remember that case. I felt from the beginning that Mr. Condit was guilty but then , poof, it was hushed up.

Wasn't she supposed to be pregnet also?

Can't recall them now but over the years there have been several other strange deaths in Washington.

I don't really remember if she was pregnant or not. It does seem that most of these types of cases involve a pregnant woman though. I didn't see anything in the Wiki article about her being pregnant.

It gets pretty frustrating to see people who are above the law.

if my memory serves me right, her corpse was found after the searchers
returned to the area for a second look...

there are some pretty eerie places in Rock Creek Park, and from what i remember there are homeless & drifters who hang out in the woods,

and with the constant turnover of interns and entry level civil service secretaries...there's a steady supply of unaware & naive young people
to be victims of the many types of predators out there.

I read a website story that stated Levy was an Israeli spy. Its more likely she was murdered by the CIA then Condit. There is evidence that she traveled back and forth to Israel.

Oh man, memories.

I used to work at a popular health club in the DC area back then. MANY politicians were members - like Liberman.

Anyways, Gary was a member too. Sleazebag. At that time, I wasnt in to politics, so I could have cared less about all the known members. LOL

I know that area really well. It would be pretty easy to dispose of her

I'm not sure of its accuracy and can't remember where and when I read it...although I am sure I'll have it page marked so if anyone is interested enough I can PROBABLY dig it out....

Anyhoo - I read that while working for Condit one of her jobs was to check all visits to Federal Institutions....in the course of doing so, she MAY have noted that Dr Louis Jolyon West had visited Timothy McVeigh 14 times. Dr West was of course involved in both MK Ultra and Bluebird/Artichoke, he was also a founding board member of the False Memory Syndrome Foundation. He also interviewed Jack Ruby following the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald. And, he also headed the team of psychologists who were sent in to Oklahoma after the bombing to 'counsel' the survivors and the victims families.

The implication being that she was killed because she asked one too many questions about why Dr West, a internationally renowned brain washing specialist with top secret CIA clearance to boot, was spending so much time with the bomber.

www.geocities.com...

Was easy to find after all - the source is none too reliable of course but it is reasonably well written and may be of interest - it certainly goes the for the full-on conspiracy angle.

Here’s two links that may shed light on your question or add further confusion.

The Chandra Levy Affair by Sherman H. Skolnick 22-Jun-2001.
The Chandra Levy Affair, Part two by Sherman H. Skolnick 20-Aug-2001
Both were written pre-9-11-2001.

I am really glad that you are never going to be on a jury deciding Condits fate..if you have prejudged the man already with no inside knowledge of the case and no facts or a defense presented to hear both sides, it seems that there are a few people here ready to throw a rope over a tree pretty fast..better be as right as you are certain. You may be the next man accused without merit. If there was any evidence linking Condit to this murder, we can rely on our vaunted justice system to ferret out the guilty, right? isn't that what we pay them for?

Yeah, I never saw a shred of evidence that Condit was involved in Levy's disappearance. Sure, he was a scumbag. Sure, he was a cheater and he tried to lie about it. But that doesn't make him a murderer.

If I remember correctly, there was a woman whose body was found in the same general area and was killed under similar circumstances. I believe they found the man who did it and suspected that he may have been responsible for Levy's death as well. I don't know what has happened since, perhaps someone on here knows what I'm talking about and can fill us in.

As for Condit, contrary to rumors he actually cooperated fully with investigators. While in the beginning he did try to conceal his affair with her, that doesn't make him a killer.

Another poster said something about Condit being caught disposing of evidence related to Levy in a dumpster? Do you have a source for this? Because I never heard of such a story.

Anyway, being a scumbag and being a politician does not mean you're automatically responsible for the murder of any woman around you. Too many people on here are eager to jump to conclusions and always suspect a conspiracy. For all we know it could have been the work of some sick serial killer who is still out there murdering women, is locked up in jail or has since died. The possibilities are endless. This is not to say that Condit is innocent, but I've yet to see a single shred of evidence pointing to the man's guilt. And it's a real damn shame if he is innocent because he paid one hell of a price over this whole incident. I don't think cheating on your wife alone is enough to make a man deserving of losing his job. Otherwise, all of you would have supported the impeachment of Clinton. Actually, you would have never voted for him in the first place considering his long history of womanizing and cheating!

I'm just saying... let's be objective and fair here. None of us know the whole story and none of us can stand here and point the finger at Condit just because we don't like the way he looks or acts. Thank God our criminal justice system isn't based on those standards. Otherwise, I'm sure a lot of freaky ATS members would be behind bars!

The only thing that knocked this case off of the front pages was 911.

I sleuthed this case years ago, and one of the most interesting things I found was that Condit was on the House Intelligence Committee in the years leading up to 911. That is not unusual, I know - but the fact that him and Chandra were using trains instead of planes in the weeks prior to 911 made my eyebrows go up.

You will find all kinds of articles about Chandra and trains because cops found on her computer where she had visited an Amtrak site. Her mom also says in one interview that Chandra liked to travel by train.

I found out Condit had been using the trains to go from Modesto California to D.C. in the weeks prior to 911 by reading articles that pertained to him BEFORE Chandra ever went missing.

It's possible they both just liked trains. Or maybe they met up on the trains for their affair. Or one could really put a tin foil hat on and think that by being on that Intelligence Committee, he knew of some warning regarding the use of planes in the days leading up to 911 - and shared that info with Chandra.

She had left a message on her aunts answering maching the day before she disappeared that said she had some "big news."

More than likely I was reading too much into it, but it's an interesting factoid nonetheless.
