Do you remember back in 2005 about the Gas companies had record profits?

I taken allot of thought in that,
Gas companies said that they need to raise prizes for production of oil.
Yet they make major profit with the extra $1-4 we payed. They said it was
going to production, but it was turned it into profit than used for the expense.
They said that the Oil reserves are draining, which is believable.
but the cost of production is going up, which is on my part is unbelievable.
Am I just misunderstanding it all? Cause It looks like to me that the Gas companies are just suckering us out of extra few dollars at the gas station.
