I think he's saying that if you're browner or speak a different first language than he does, you "don't count" unless you go out of your way to out-jingo every jingoistic knucklehead on the mainland.

Sad that for many people, you can't be an "American" unless you have a US flag flapping in someone's face at every occasion.

Im an American. I was born here - I am a US citizen. I PROUDLY fly the US flag - as I love my country....and I have visited other countries. I still choose to live here.

However, my family originates from Scotland - few generations back. I love everything about my heritage and I also proudly fly the flag of Scotland It doesnt mean I am not American. I suppose I could call myself Scottish-American, just like blacks call themselves African-American
