This is strange, for it to cause twitching wouldnt it have to be something that is effecting their CSN (Nervous System)?
Source
VINTON, Va. — A mysterious illness causing an odd "twitching" symptom has stricken several students and a staff member at a Virginia high
school.
Testing continues at William Byrd High School in Roanoke County where students and staff have shown strange symptoms of twitching and spasms since
September, but a cause has yet to be determined.

Wow...this could be straight out of a horror-movie. The slow and creeping invasion of something that is causing more and more people to twitch. I look
forward to more information coming up on this!

We joke about zombies and such, but this is just, Wow!!!
My first thought was to wonder how far away from a weapons testing center this happened. Because this would be the perfect battlefield weapon. A
soldier that was reacting in this manner would be helpless.
An accidental leak? A test like the old LSD thing from years ago?
Or maybe I'm just paranoid and this is some new natural illness.
My heart goes out to those involved. This must be very scary to the families of those suffering with it, and to everyone around the area.

Well, you know this is a conspiracy site so here goes a theory
Since this is only happening at this school, that they know of, maybe some agency has added something to the food or the drinking water for some type
of experiment.
Maybe they're adding high doses of fluoride or some type of anti-depressant to the water
Remember, the Govt has experimented on citizens many times in the past.

My first thoughts are also on the nervous system. I believe the average twitch is due to an overwrought nervous system due to a lot of stress. I have
also heard of cases where it was due to sugar intake or allergies to dairy products. Even though you have several cases in one place it could be
something AT the school that is making their condition worse to trigger these symptoms.
Whatever the cause I hope it is discovered soon as it must be quite frightening for the kids, as well as their families, to have to deal with this out
of the blue.

Less than ten cases in a building of over 1,200 bodies doesn't scream out at me as being some kind of chemical/biological testing ground. Not yet
anyway

When I was younger I had that twitching urge. I later found out I get it when drinking too much diet coke. After quitting on diet coke, the urge
disappeared. That as a side-note.
If its less than ten cases, then it could also be that the rumour of it happening is turning into a self-fullfilling prophecy of more of it happening
or something.
But this is straight out of a "slow-creeping-invasion" movie. In 5 years we might say "It all started at that school in Virginia, remember? Who
would have thought it would become the worldwide epidemic?"

Lol, yea I know but I seem to always jump to hasty conclusions on things like this, besides I knew that it would eventually be said, so I figured I'd
go ahead and say it now
Seriously though, I do think that it is something at school and not a "disease" that was brought by a student or teacher from home. I dont think
that its anything thats able to be contagious, I think its something at the school.

Then it could possibly be related to the artificial sweetener aspartame.
I know that schools in Tx are on the anti-sugar kick so maybe the Virginia schools are using aspartame as a sweetener in their cooking or maybe drinks
that they may serve at lunch.

This is happening in MY community and I can tell you right now that the school administration is not handling this well at all and people are
really up in arms about it. They sent a letter home about it but they wouldn't say what the symptoms were to protect the identiy of the students
which only made matters worse. They refused to talk to the media about it either. Monday they held a meeting with parents and and again refused the
say anything about the symptoms. What you have here did not come from the media per say or from the school administration but from a parent at the
meeting who knew some of the kids involved and stated publicly that if the school board wouldn't go into details, she would and she proceeded to tell
what you have here.
Several toxiology tests of the area around and in the school and came up with nothing.
Personally I think that the whole thing is blown all out of preportion, either this is a prank by the students or they got ahold of some bad drugs or
something like that.

Do you then feel they are covering for the sick teacher as he was involved in drugs? He couldn't be part of a prank though surely? Showing my
ignorance here but do drugs have effects that last for weeks? It's at least five weeks since this started now.
I think it's fairly obvious that the school has really crapped out on this one by trying to act as though everything is normal where having walkouts
in protest is far from normal in school. At least I would hope that's not happening often

As far as drugs go, there are many that effect the CNS but like he said, not for that long.
Having had a torn rotator cuff for the last two years and had surgery 2 weeks ago, ive been taking a lot of pain pills, specifically Vicodin and
Ultram (Tramadol.)
I know that after taking Tramadol for a few weeks and then stopping them abruptly, I will have major muscle spasms and twitching throughout my body
but it only lasts a couple of days.
I guess it could be some type of drug but do these 10 kids have any type of relationship together or have they never seen each other before (that is
possible in a school that large)
Usually, when drugs are involved, its a specific "clique" of people that are affected, so if a school staff member is also having these symptoms
then its most likely not a drug, at least not a drug that was taken voluntarily

I don't know about the teacher but as for the drugs, if they had gotten hold of a bad dose of something like XTC, yes its possible.

OK this is scaring and freaking me out. My Son who is in Junior High, very clean, no aspartame, no drugs, no soda, no meat, very little dairy, no
major stress factors, has begun to develop symptoms which involve head aches and twitching . We live in the Mid West and attend a very small school of
less than 300. Well I have been putting off setting an appointment with the doc, hoping it is related to growth or new testosterone levels or
something, anything but a real problem... Yikes , I guess I shall call the school first, and then the Dr. Sheeze, this sucks.

I wonder how widespread this might be? Anyone else hear of it in your area? And antar, what part of the country do you live in?

Twitching is common among teenagers. I see plenty do it. Even I did it as a teenager, and diet coke was not the cause, only the enhancer. In my case
the cause was nervousness, enhanced by caffeine.
What does not seem to be common is the case at this school that seems to be exaggerated occurences of twitching and seemingly more noticeable ones.

Looks like they are calling in an expert to try and figure out exactly whats going on with these students and staff.
Source
VINTON, Va. — Roanoke County authorities are hoping an outside expert can tell them what's causing the mysterious "twitching" disease that
has affected several students and a staffer at William Byrd High School.
A Richmond-based medical investigator from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will join a team trying to track down the cause of the
mysterious symptoms, which also include headaches and arm spasms, the Roanoke Times reported.
Robert Parker, a spokesman for the Virginia Department of Health, said the CDC official represents an additional level of support for the
investigation.
"We don't know where the finish line is," Parker told the Roanoke Times. "There may never be an explanation that we can point a finger to."
Epidemiologists are speaking with those affected and looking at their medical records, trying to determine what, if anything, they have in common. Did
they all breathe the same air? Touch the same surfaces? Spend a significant amount of time together?

That's scary stuff but only ten out of hundreds? Strange. The last time I saw someone with a severe twitch she'd just been abducted by aliens.
Seriously! Might be an aspartame thing though, or something similar. I stopped fizzy drinks years ago and my trembling (inner twitching) stopped
immediately. So did that feeling of having concrete for blood.

What do you mean by "fizzy drinks?"
Are you referring to any sodas that have carbonated water in them to make them fiz or do you just mean the caffeine thats in them?
And yea, 10 out of 1200 isnt a significant amount of people, certainly not enough to declare it an epidemic but its still worth keeping an eye on.

I mean the aspartame. I drank gallons of diet coke and pepsi then stopped altogether. Before I stopped I was even getting pain in my
wrists from having them rest on the cuff of my jersey. And my blood did feel like concrete. I had really achy limbs, like a SOLID feel. I drink
tea all the time now and my new problem is constant thinking. It's very annoying. It's like my brain wont shut up. When I get too much mind
chatter I put the internal juke-box on and it plays music constant, lol. Not saying I'm hearing voices or anything but the tea gives me a noisy
brain. Still can't get used to drinking just water but I should.
