Astronomers discover new planet

Astronomers in the US say they have found a new planet in orbit around a star 41 light years from Earth.

The discovery brings to five the number of planets orbiting the star, 55 Cancri, the most found to date in a single solar system outside our own.

40 light years - not so far away. But I do like the slightly hopeful suggestion that it's "a little hard to imagine that there's just nothing in that big gap." Why? Why shouldn't there be? Seems to me if there's a planet three times bigger than Jupiter the likelihood is that it's got all the goodies itself...

It is great that this find has been made. I hope these planets continue to be found. I also look forward to the day when there is technology to find out more about them.
