Somebody out there has also been spamming with email messages that are supposedly from Ron Paul. This is disgusting because it's something the campaign would never be affiliated with.

It is certainly starting to look like RP is a serious candidate even to the unaware.
Now, if this record breaking campaign drive is somehow 'missed' by the media, won't you be just a bit suspicious that some kind of game is afoot?

Ok. At 9:41 est, RP has hit just about $3,500,000.
That's about $200,000 in the last 15 minutes!

And he's still got another 2+ hours to go.

Right now he is over $3.8 million, and it looks like he'll break through $4 mil tonight!!

Supposedly the last record was John Kerry with $3.6 mil in one day.

Whoever it was that came up with this idea to have everybody donate on Nov 5th is a genius. This is historic, I didn't think it was going to be this big at all.

It's looking like a solid $4,100,000! in 24 hours!

Let's track what coverage this historic event receives in the bulls#*t MSM.

The real test, of course, is whether these funds will translate into a widespread perception that he is a legitimate candidate, and whether there will be movement in the polls due to this. Despite the enormous amount of exposure that he has had--and not all of it has been bad, by any stretch--there seems to be an institutional inertia working against him. This is not surprising in the least; voters, unfortunately, tend to generally fit into the two-party mold regardless of logical inconsistencies and the like.

The $64,000 question (the $4.5 million question?) is whether he can build a winning coalition of voters. He needs to be willing to package a message that is going to attract wide-spread support, which, at this moment, seems questionable. This is not a slam against Paul so much as a realistic observation of the modern polity, which is socialized, as noted above, into Democrats and Republicans. A candidate who has some planks from both parties is necessarily going to have a much harder time because people are more likely to vote for the person with whom they agree most of the time. People who support getting out of Iraq don't support, generally, free-market healthcare.

I also think that it is telling that his $4.5m came from 22,000 donors, which translates into $160 per person. I think it is legitimate to ask whether, based on this, there is support among the population that donates less than $100 (literally about 99.9% of the people). One could draw the inference, just as much as one could the other way, that his support is coming from a relatively small but vocal community that is willing to donate over more than $100 per person; definitely something new in modern politics.

This is a positive step for Mr. Paul, and it will be interesting to see if he can translate his movement to a primary win or a successful third party candidacy.

Amazing! I have to admit being floored by the $4.2 million dollars you raised yesterday for this campaign. And unlike the fatcat operations of the opposition, the average contribution from our 36,672 donors was $103.

I say "you raised," because this historic event was created, organized, and run by volunteers. This is the spirit that has protected American freedom in our past; this is the spirit that is doing so again.

Some of the mainstream media have sat up and taken notice. Others have pooh-poohed our record online fundraising. But the day is coming--far faster than they know--when they will not be able to ignore our freedom revolution.

We are working hard, with you, to spread our message far and wide-in New Hampshire, in South Carolina, in Iowa, and in every other state with a primary. And people are listening.

Unfortunately I think this looked a lot more impressive than it really was.

He has 80,000 friends on MySpace. Probably safe to assume most of the donors. So the majority of his supporters on MySpace didn't donate. I didn't.

As exciting as it was, it was funny to get up the next day and realize that 99% of America will probably never know about this. Either way, the campaign can use this for ads and events and whatever, so it has still gone to a good cause.

We are going donate en~mass again on December 16th. I have a couple benji's just itching to get put in the RP coffers.

The only thing that he promotes that I don't agree with is that he wants to end the war.
now that we have them beaten down and on the run, now he wants to get out of Iraq?? i'm sorry but that is insane.

If he does win the election he will not bring the troops home. he is afterall an adult and adults know the hard questions have to be answered with hard answers. he is just trying to get the antiwar vote and you people are falling for it.

the war cannot be stopped until every last vermin is exterminated and he knows this, end of story...hey someone needs to be the adult, sorry to burst your bubble and immature anti war rantings...grow up.
