The idea seems to go against human nature. The first year on this new continent almost saw the demise of the people because they tried communism and it did not work. Funny, long before Marx or Lenin, the first colonists had already tried it and dismissed it as a bad idea.
The best way to get a human to try and excel is to allow him the reward of his labor. The best way to get him to be a slackard is to allow him to benefit from the rewards of others'. Whether or not it can be done without becoming a tyrannical mess as it has everywhere in this world it has been tried is irrelevant to the point we humans need reward for our labors.
Can you imagine how entertaining communistic soccor would be? No reason to really try and win, everyone is going to be alotted so many points per game and you can't change it. Now get out there and play your heart out - for what?

1. No, not under communism. However, if you think you really own land in the U.S. see what happens if you don't pay your land tax. It is possible to get the original deed (can't remember the word, been a while) but most have no idea about it or how to go about it.

3. Yes, in many of the hybrid "communistic" countries today.
China's cild birth policy isn't really a product of communism, which is an economic matter, but the dictatorial style of government.

If you'll look around you'll notice that many countries people might, out of a knee-jerk response, think of as free states and capitalistic are a hybrid of capitalism and socialism, and aren't as "free" as one might think. The U.S. is a prime example.

I agree to a larger extent than many would expect that capitalism seems a bit out of kilter, as is the world in general, it seems. But let's be honest, does anything last forever? All empires, all civilizations, everything manmade seems to originate, grow, peak and then fall.
But through it all, beer remains.

what's the point of 'owning' land, when it's a given?
it's basically the same thing as owning, you just have to pay less for it, or nothing... depending on what policies the people will adopt concerning housing.
i don't think anyone would attempt to take it away, if that's what you're concerned about.

you can go to church and what not... but if you're trying to plot against the gov't... then, i would figure you would get into some trouble. but, ofcourse, the same would happen under capitalism.

after the revolution, i don't think anyone would want to go back to the old ways... the system which is responsible for creating all the problems.

Communism is not evil, it like Capitalism is just a way of living, and has not conscious. What makes it evil? Zealism. Captialists, communists, they have all had their Zealots, Hitler, Stalin, so on.

What makes America Different? Democracy. Where other nations suffer under one almighty ideology, socialism, communism, national socialism. America's Ideology slides across the balance.

In the 30s, America was about as Communist as the Soviet Union in the early 20s, or Finland rather. Many people worked for the government doing government projects. Farms were being helped by government programs. Everything had a governmental cloak over it, to ensure the lack of total collapse, which happend in Germany.

But as it should, it slid to capitalism when it needed to, and industrial owners stopped at nothing to crank out more war material than any other nation during WW2 put together, to profit from it. Greed as one puts it is a powerful incentive. While the Soviet Union was flying American Planes, we were selling them to them

Democracy is that great curb, that prevents us from losing freedom, for equality. We would rather have both, and probably will be the last nation on earth, to ever have freedom and equality, from a revolution. No nation since our founding, has ever acheived both. Vietnam acheived equality, cuba, equality, they all acheived equality, but failed to acheive freedom because they were zealots.

Nazi Germany Acheived equality (for germans), but they sure as hell had no freedoms.

Never be a communist, or capitalist, just know when which ideology best serves our way of life.
