I, pretty much, concur with you on this BT.
I do think that what you speak and address has been "influencial" in the US for quite sometime now, though....degrees vary with the adminsitrations
and current events of those time periods.
I have recently read and did a comparison/contrast research project on these three books:
"The Media Game : American Politics in the Television Age"
"Rich Media, Poor Democracy: Communication Politics in Dubious Times"
"The Interplay of Influence: News, Advertising, Politics, and the Mass Media"
Good to excellent reads and give historical accounts and historical relevance to that which you speak of BT.
