I would like some opinions on what some of you guys think would happen to South Africa if WW3 goes down...

I mean we are a small/weak country now, not what we used to be, and we seem to be siding with Iran in this nuclear standoff!!

I don't see what the problem is. We (SA) are a strong nation - just look at the unity of the people after winning the RWC! Bush and his cronies can take a flying leap. We are at least one of the nations who are not prepared to bow and scrape to Mr Bush et al and I hope that it will stay that way, thank you very much!

U don't see what the problem is ? we supply uranium to Iran, south africa is a very uranium rich country, what are we "a strong nation" as you say going to do if sides are demanded to be chosen, how do you think us south africans will fare figthing a war with america because we supplied their enemy with a nuclear product ?

So you are essencially saying, right now, that your country is, indeed, supporting terrorist agendas by selling uranium to Iran, N. Korea and Syria? How do you feel about your "strong nation" doing this? I think to find your answer, you must look inward, not outward. Do YOU support your country selling nuclear material to countries who speak with a clenched fist? Who might just use it for less-than-benevolent applications?

I don't know what to tell you. SA has a good army and good equipment, but, I think they would try to compromise before any conflict ensued.

SA would cease to exist if we (US) didnt want it around. Is that good enough for ya? I mean i dont hope that happens as i have no ill will towards SA or the people thereof. Im just stating the facts. Hopefully it will never come to that.

If you people read what i said in the TOPIC, i said that we are a WEAK nation, the other dude implied that we are a strong nation, why do you think I asked what would happen to S.A if world war 3 started...

And yes, I have done some research and S.A has some strong ties with Iran, the great United States even approached us to try and persuade Iran to cease their uranium enrichment, we supplied them with uranium all through the 80's and still even after the US told us to stop.

Personally I hate this country with a passion, and would much rather move to the U.S and sign up with the military in order to gain U.S citizenship, but my mind is changing every day with the way your "late great USA" is messing up your country, you are so far gone in your debt you have to create a North American Union to save your own asses.

Yes you could wipe us off the map in a day or two probably, but your losing your place in the world one day at a time, china will be the supoer power of the world in 10 - 20 years...

Ok so why are you guys attacking SA? Oh because the USA is big and strong, like the ogre we are. Anyway what will happen to SA if WWIII comes about? I hope nothing bad, I have some friends who live there. I would hope that your nation would take a neutral course of action and not get involved. Why can't nations let other nations retain there national soverinty (sp) ? Sorry to rant a bit, somethings just kinda "irk" me.

Not so sure South africa is an easy target to just hit and run....I am a South african, We might not be as big and dump, but we have the geographical edge. If we were so tiny, why are on the securty council? Its one saying it will take a day or two, it's another when you got to figure out how!

I think your question Sethdarke, does not have a simple answer and depends on the extent of WW3.

Lets look at WW3 being conducted in Western Europe and the Middle East first off. And lets further assume it is a conventional war, then the major impact to South Africa would be the general ripple in the world economy and the disruption to the supply of goods around the world. South Africa would come up huge diplomatic pressure from all sides in the conflict and lets assume that a world war is unlikely not to involve the US and then by extention NATO.

So trade is very likely to dry up and lets faces it, if South Africa is seen by the US and its allies to be supplying weapons and minerals to help their enemies, the diplomatic pressure would be ratcheted up and then the US and its allies would make an example of a ship/plane delivering weapons.

South Africa would tow the line from the US and its Allies, or it would open itself to military attack. Yes the SDF is a well equiped and training army, but against an alliance that can protect power anywhere in the world, South Africa does not really stand a chance, and no leader wants to do down in history as the leader that caused their country to be destroyed.

There are still strong ties to the United Kingdon and the Commonwealth which would be used to put pressure on South Africa.


If we broaden the scope to include Africa as part of the battle ground, South Africa is one of the most powerful, well equiped and training militaries in Africa. I still would not see South Africa opposing the US and its allies unless it was very sure of support, and I do not think that Russia or China would be prepared to offer the level of support and commitment to South Africa for it to oppose the US and its allies.

South Africa would either be neutal or part of the US alliance.

Remember that historically, South African biochemists were considered the world experts in biological weapons. (Wouter Basson et al)

Although this has been disbanded (or so they claim) with the new government in place, the latent expertise in biological weapons far exceeds that of any other country.

I would not dismiss their ability to defend themselves so quickly...

Kr0nos, while I agree with most of your statements I take issue with what I quoted. Spewing this stuff does nothing but emphasize the arrogance of most Americans. Yes, by definition, we might be better off than people in other countries; but you have to be able to get along with all the kids in the playground to succeed in life.

Realistically, one day, SA might be considered one of those "terrorist states". You know, once our uranium supplies run low. But your countries immigration laws make it easier for an illegal immigrant to succeed in america, than a 4 year IT specialist who can't go to your country because i dont have a degree or some crap like that, it'd be easier for me to pack my bags and just live in america illegally...
