Thanks, his books are well worth the read, even if you're just a casual researcher.

I especially like the controvesy over whether or not Miyamoto Musashi - the legendary swordsman, did infact exist and whether or not he was just invented by a bunch of dudes trying to keep the cult of the sword alive in japan.

Hey now, there is nothing wrong for just "jumping in" here. It takes initiative to do so and initiative is a very good thing.

Craze ? Is that like the skateboarding craze in the 70's ? Or Cabbage Patch Dolls ? Oh no. It's gotta be Buzz Lightyear, right ? Sexy space suit n'all.

When did someone's sexuality become a craze exactly ? Perhaps you're only noticing homosexuals in your midst today because a generation ago most homosexuals lived a straight life, even sometimes marrying and having children although more likely probably living their lives as what Grandma might call "confirmed bachelors".

Honestly. You'd think homosexuality had just been invented.

As to the advert itself, what harm does it do ? It's thought provoking and challenges people such as yourself to consider .... what if my child turns out to be gay ? Do you think your own attitudes to this "craze" might change if that happened ? Does it make you think any differently ?

What if they changed it from "homosexual" to "schizophrenic" or to "bankrupt" ? They're taking the innocence of a child and imposing on it the prejudice of our generation in order to challenge the way we think today.

Where's the harm in that ?

It's just an advert. You can't make people homosexual if they're straight. You just can't.

And yet another thread which involves homosexuality and children. Seems to have become quite a regular occurrence on this forum. And always initiated by straight men too and always with the noblest intention of "discussing the issue". Let's see if this one rapidly descends into a general anti-gay rant like all the rest.

I agree with this person.
It's an advert, - the smoking adverts didn't cause an uproar, and neither do the ads about child abuse. They are all petitioning a cause.

Homosexuality is, in my opinion predisposed within our genetics. otherwise, why would people put up with the beatings from homophobes?

I know what its like to be hated, to be abused for being different. though, none of you want my sob story, so long story short-

people do this kind of thing for a reason. they are trying to tell you something. just like every advert is.

oh, and ps, just because i think this is ok, doesnt mean to say i agree with some moron writing the word "lesbian" on an innocent pic of two little girls.

You really don't have to be too careful around here. ATS is one of the least worrisome forums I have ever been a part of.

As long as you use your common sense here, you are good to go.

Don't attack another member, don't knowingly post false information and don't cuss (beyond light pg 13 level) and you are good to go.

Well you have to be ...some of these people on here are so keen on getting the spelling and grammer right ...but do not always understand the point of the post !! But only kidding I am not worried ..there are some very intelligent people on here...just seems there is little common sense ..things are speculated on ..yet rarely projected !!

Like this thread if we project the outcome of these things ..and we have an understanding of human nature and how things are ...its bad !!

Ah, but speculation creates new ideas and thoughts, if someone were to pick up on any of the speculation i make, then i'd only be too happy to project it for wider discussion.

I take it you're not used to being around people who would otherwise be labelled 'insane' or 'mad'.

I note we share the same nickname by the way, Rob.

I like all the comments about nurture and rearing determining the sexuality of a child, when all the evidence suggests that that is something you are BORN with.
For example, they have found that the more male older brothers you have from your mother, if you are male, the higher the likelihood of you being gay.
They have found IDENTICAL twins, where one is gay and one is straight. Recently, there was a Dateline show, (I think, could have been 48 Hours) with young boys, and one boy was a boy's boy, and the other would be considered girly by many. HE liked to play with barbies, and paint his nails, and his mother allowed it, because that was how he felt comfortable. And yes, they were identical twins.
These boys were young, something like 5-6 years old.
I myself grew up with a boy that was one of the girls.
He wanted to be a hair dresser or fashion designer. He would paint his nails with us girls, play dolls with us, and double dutch.. he was better than I was, lol.
And he turned out to be gay.. and in the military. And no one MADE him that way, that was just the way he was.
Let me tell you, some if my best friends are gay, and not one of them CHOOSE to be gay, they chose to stop living a lie.
Gays are not out to make you gay, and they want people to stop trying to make them straight. All they want is to be treated like, and afforded the same rights as everyone else..
If they have to stand up, and shout out in order to be seen and heard, so be it. How long were black people invisible? How long were women silent?
And am I the only one that find it ironic that gay have long been accused of promiscuity, but that people are fighting letting them marry, and live in a monogamous marriage.
And as a last thought... You straight men should be happy, the more gay men there are, the less competition for you..

OK, ramble over, I am going to take a nap now, lol.

Why would i be happy about any competition? I hate competition, especially when it involves people.

There seems to be a certain amount of... speculative thinking? coming from certain users in this thread - things like "Not out impregnating every hussy i can" and "The more gay men there are, the less competition there is".

Can i ask why this is?

EDIT: Hey Shuck, It's great that you can project things forwards, but remember you aren't the only one.

P.S: I wouldn't so much call it a gift, so much as a 'talent', which is funny because i never thought of myself as a talented individual.

Well, they say you do 'live and learn'.

Paradigm

Things have got ridiculous I think ..I know the gay friends I have balk at this ..times have changed and it is acceptable ..there are still a few of the homophobes about..but most have a very good standard of rights ...

I just think that now this is being used by a small minority to dictate..
Their own agendas ...stuff like this creates resentment ...the more push ...there will be a baclash!!

Thats what I think anyway!! and thast my opinion !!

As much as i'd hate to say this, and i'm sure i'll regret it later;

Everyone seems to be afraid of being a homophobe, that it'll make them out to be a bigot and therefore unworthy of attention/appreciation.

But one thing i have never once heard of is an idea that it can work both ways.

As in, You can have Homophobes AND Heterophobes.

People seem to be instinctively capable of alienating others, that to do so is only natural.

It would be interesting to see, for two people, one straight and one gay, to start shouting "Homophobe!" and "Heterophobe!" at one another.

I believe the craze he may be referring to, though I dont know for sure....this is my interpretation....is the "in your face radicals"

Radicals of ANY group are horribly bad for the overall group. There IS a craze of radicals. And its ridiculous.

We dont need to know that "you" (in a general sense) are gay. If it doesnt matter that one is gay, then there is NO need to flaunt it.

I certainly dont flaunt that im straight. Can you imagine what an IDIOT I would look like If I paraded around town, shouting to the world...."IM STRAIGHT....IM STRAIGHT....IM LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE MEN!"

There is no need for it....just like there is no need to flaunt that "Im white and Im proud". Me being white was not my choice, and I actually have been the subject of abuse by those who are not white.

Point is....and I will repeat what I said earlier.

If we, as humans, continue to label ourselves..........then the rest of the world will continue to label us. You either want to be equal or you want to be separate. You cant have both.

I proposed this same idea in relation to racism awhile back in one of my threads and didn't get attacked for it, so I think you are safe.

Then again, I'm a prick who had "compassion is a crutch" in his signature for awhile, so perhaps I was attacked and just didn't care enough to recognize it hahaha

More likely though, the ATS members that aren't trolls have a habit of looking at thoughts with an open mind.

Irrespective of our views there are those who see homosexuals as a form of genetically damaged humans and will seek to breed them out along with anything else that does not fit their prescribed norm.
