I think, Winston, that a news organisation has the same reasons for political alignment as any other commercial organisation: one side or the other
will be perceived as commercially advantageous and, in Western countries where people often identify themselves by political labels marketing is
helped by a clearly identifiable niche.
Taking a certain newspaper is as much a statement of a perceived "personal" identity as buying a certain designer label or drinking such and such
a brand of Scotch - pure naked selling.
