Looks like the beginning of another push to space and the moon. Asian countries sending probes to map lunar surface.

Asian Race
What's behind Asia'a moon race?

China, Japan, and India are all focusing on the moon, says Dr. Kulacki, because it is "close, doable" and a logical first step in interplanetary exploration. Some officials see practical rewards beyond the scientific knowledge to be gleaned by mapping and analyzing the lunar surface. The moon is thought to be rich in Helium-3, for example, which could one day be used for nuclear fusion to create energy.

Here's a rundown of recent activity or missions involving the moon:

Japan-

Oct. 5th, 2007; Lunar probe, SELENE, enters lunar orbit.

Oct. 21st, 2007; JAXA Update

China-

Jan 2007; China destroys satellite in space.

Oct. 23rd, 2007; China to test new space weapon?

Oct. 24th, 2007; China launches lunar probe..

India-

Sept. 23rd, 2007; India's 1st lunar mission set for Aprl '08.

Sept. 29th, 2007; Quest to solve moon puzzle...

Recent US activities in space:

Oct 2007-Missions to the ISS. Kazakhstan. Discovery.

Well, you get the idea. Space is a busy place these days. Why the sudden push?
