What I love about America is the many great people and inventions that have changed the world...everything from the light bulb to the car, airplane, skyscraper, and on and on!! In the late 1800s America started becoming the technilogical leader of the world and still is after 100 years! This is what is great about freedom it allows people to improve themselvs....not to mention the millions that still come here every year in search of a better life.

What I like about America. Life, Liberty and Mom's apple pie! America thy beutiful... The history, the liberator ect. I bleed Red white and blue, dont you? GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Freedom may not be as present as precepted, but life here could be much worse. We are blessed.

I love Americans, i have friends in Seattle and In California and Texas... if i met Yanks in Australia i always talk to them... its the Government i dont like... but as indidviduals you guys are A-OK

Personally, I train in the martial arts as a workout and because I love doing it. It's nice to finally find a way to work out besides running that I enjoy!

As for carrying a gun with martial arts training, the two kind of go hand in hand. With martial arts, you hone your body into a lethal weapon. A gun is the same way, and if you don't train to use it, too, you won't be able to hit anything, especially with a pistol.

As for walking away from a knife fight, any kind of fight is one to walk away from. I've been blessed in the fact that I haven't had to fight anybody since my freshman year in highschool (about 9 years ago). But there have been many opportunities, but it's become a lot easier to either swallow my pride, disengauge from the conflict, or laugh, tell the guy there's no doubt in my mind you know how to fight, let me buy you a beer instead; let's see how well you drink . (Let me tell you, that has stopped so many fights and created some good friends!:up

However, I do recognise there are times to fight. If you're walking down a street, and see someone raping someone, it's time to fight. If you're in a gas station and someone is holding up the cashier, it's time to fight. Now in both of those situations, martial arts could be used, but in the gas station, I've not learned any move/combination of moves which would get me over a couple of shelves and to the gun wielding criminal before he could pop a few rounds into me. Part of the use of martial arts is to use everything to your advantage. If you're in a life and death fight, and the person has you on the ground and is about to end it, throw some sand. If you have a gun on your person, and it's the only way to save your or someone else's life, use it.

As long as you have control over yourself and your anger, people need not fear you having a gun.

Oh, and in America, anyone who has commited a felony can't carry or own a firearm.

However alien this might seem, I love and am proud of my government. I like Bush. However this nation's government is better than W. Europe, Canada's or Australia (no offence). We are a pure democracy, not socialistic. Socialism has taxes that are too high, weak armies, less of free enterpise (not saying there is none, just less), govenments that are too strong, and prices that are too high for phone bills or something along that line. Having the government touching more things will cause them to be distroyed. No offence intended to people but thats how I see it.

Btw, I wouldnt mind a natonal healthcare system if that 40% of funds was not squandered.

Saddly, FDR did a lot to make this statement untrue. Also, your concept of democracy is that of capitalism. You can still have a democracy when your nation is socialist. The only prerequisite for a democracy is that all the people can vote.

Oh, and we live in a democratic republic. All the people get to vote, but they get to vote for represenitives to make laws.

Now please understand, this doesn't mean I don't agree with what the idea is behind what you're saying. I, too, like Bush. I love our government, and the fact that if we don't like what they're doing, we can replace most of it every 2 years. If ya can't beat em, vote em out

I figured I'd have to, or someone who totally disagrees with what you said would, and they would just be truely cruel. No offense ment. It was an attempt (apparently a poor one, sorry!) to educate. Sorry again.

I have guns, I like to shoot them! I have never shot anyone and don't plan to. I like the security of knowing that if I need it it's there. I have a pitbull also (very letheal) that is a guardian over my kids and has infact stepped to me thinking I was getting aggressive to my kids while playing. Never bit anyone tho.
I also have a race car and I like to race it, I don't plan on killing anyone with that either, but it's just as letheal. Should these be forbidden to responsible owners?
If someone wants to harm you they will find a way.
Maybe strap a bomb to them selves, stab you, light your home on fire with you in it, poision, run you over, ect...

Being able to own a fire arm in one of the reasons I love this country, and there are plenty other reasons.
There are different states that are stricter on the gun laws. Virginia is pretty leinent while in Washington DC it's illegal to own one. DC has a higher murder rate per-capita than VA.

57% were suicides, guess they could have just jumped off a building, or layed on some train tracks, drank some poision, drive off a cliff, fill the garage up with carbon monoxide, hung them selves....

thats a 16 to 1 ratio and add in diversity you will have alot more disagreements that lead to violence.

It all boils down to personal responsibility, which alot of people will not accept. So quick to place blame on something or someone else. And say they caused me to do it...

Either way, I love this place even if we do have alot of gun deaths. The goods outweigh the bads....

Guns are a second admendment right and should be legal everywhere. The pure idea of no guns is stupid. What is ask the experts thing?

Also what I love about the US is that we punish our criminals not pamper them. They are SCUM. You do not give them TVs, Comps, e-mail, ect. for murdering someone. You put the needle in.

What I love about america is stories like the ones eck and intelgurl have told us. You can actually make a life here by yourself. Without being related to someone, or doing something corrupt, or selling drugs, or screwing anyone else over. Very inspiring... I admire you both.

Yes, being able to make your dreams come true in this great and awesome land truly makes it special.

I also love the fact that you can pull up stakes and head in a completely different direction to make a completely new start. You can work on Wall Street then head south to the Keys and become a fisherman/woman. Pull up stakes and head to Colorado and work as ski instructor, then to Tucson to work on a dude ranch etc etc. There are SO many opportunities here for those willing to work and learn new things.

In my life I have been a soldier, entrepeneur, worked on a horse farm (LOVED that), exterminator (bugs - not people!), sales, journalist, analyst...

My next two careers: Will own the End of the World Cafe and write novels....

As for the previous big gun argument...

When America began, it was completely rural and agrarian. The pioneers and founders had to have guns to survive. Gun ownership, is therefore, woven into our nation's very fabric. Those who own gun legally are no threat to society. It is those who procure them illegally that pose a threat to all.

You cannot disarm America. It's like others have pointed out, all the people who have them legally would suddenly find themselves in grave danger. Criminals will always get guns somehow. And I am all for concealed weapons permits. It's been proven that crime drops when the criminals know you're packin'.

Another thing, hollywood makes us look like the ok corral. True. But it is not like that here. True there are bad neighborhoods and ghettos where a lot of crime happens. But by and large, most areas are very safe. I am constantly thankful for that. And thankful that I have the right to defend myself, home and loved ones with a personal firearm. Sometimes you really do need them.
