PARIS (AFP) - European physicists said Tuesday they had sent an elusive particle known as a neutrino on a 730-kilometer (456-mile) trip under the Earth's crust and taken a snapshot of the instant it slammed into lab detectors.

Scientists have had a hard time trying to study neutrinos, but I think they are a crucial to helping us discover just what exactly dark matter and dark energy is. It wasn't too long ago that these were just theoretical particles.

It's really interesting how they "take a photo" of these particles. They are captured using "bricks" made up of lead tiles sandwiched with photographic films. Hopefully work on these particles will yeild some amazing dicoveries in the future.
