To piggyback on the credit thread, it's much bigger than that, although that's all true.

The game is transfer of wealth and it's accomplished in many ways. War helps a lot; Halliburton went from near bankruptcy to solvency even though they were under investigation by the SEC. Dyn Corp in under investigation for income tax evasion and we all know about Blackwater. They are all big winners due to the illegal war in Iraq.

But another trick in their bag is corporate tax loopholes. Frontline did a superb program on it entitled Tax Me If You Can. Corporation’s share of taxes has dropped from over 30% to under 10% and who makes up the rest? In fact many corporations pay no taxes at all but benefit from government subsidies and bailouts. Weren't companies that couldn't survive supposed to be allowed to go out of business?

The following are excellent articles about how it's done. I don't expect much help from the next election either. Almost all of the candidates are bought and paid for by big business. What's a poor man to do?
