Study: Oil Output Peaked in 2006 -- Risk of War & Unrest

· Output peaked in 2006 and will fall 7% a year
· Decline in gas, coal and uranium also predicted

World oil production has already peaked and will fall by half as soon as 2030, according to a report which also warns that extreme shortages of fossil fuels will lead to wars and social breakdown.

Article goes onto say the peak was "unexpected" -- Britain only produces 2% renewable energy a year. This stat seems crucial to our futures:

The group says official industry estimates put global reserves at about 1.255 gigabarrels - equivalent to 42 years' supply at current consumption rates. But it thinks the figure is only about two thirds of that.

Global oil production is currently about 81m barrels a day - EWG expects that to fall to 39m by 2030

I am not familiar with the guardian. Is it a tabloid or is it a legitimate news source? Why are they the only ones reporting that we are already one year beyond peak oil? That news should be pretty big news.

I can understand the conspiracy idea that it would be better left unsaid that we are beyond peak oil, to avoid public panic and the big oil money wanting to hold on as long as they can. However, it seems to be that peek oil is always kind of a mystery.

Who knows, but if it is true and supply will drop 7% per year, we are in a lot of trouble. The development of China and India is going to drive demand WAY beyond what it is now so a 7% decrease from current levels per year is really bad. Even if they mean that demand will outpace supply by 7% per year, that is bad... just not as bad.

Either way, I hope this is just sensationalist journalism with no merit. I realize that the end is near for oil, I just hope that the end isn't already here.
