The change was because the other buttons were slowing down low speed internet users.

The space on the end has been speculated to possibly be for a "Launch" button for the "evolution", or perhaps a countdown clock. So far that hasn't been confirmed nor denied by staff.

Ok, since you put it that way. I reckon its not that bad. I suppose this once I can learn to deal with change.

In reality, the US is far behind the rest of the world in broadband access penetration. The vast majority of our new (never been here before) users in September are US-based.

Considering the US is the third most populated country in the world that does not surprise me. It would be easy for France (most populated EU nation) to have a higher percentage of users with Broadband with only 45million to accommodate.

Besides, its pointless, if you have a dial up connection you have to expect ANY page that loads to be slow!

Pick one, and only one:

I pick option A please.

A) Graphically rich environment that a few are comfortable with, thus not everyone is able to read what our members post.

And again, as it should be pointed out, probably 90% + of the CONTENT in which this site THRIVES ON comes from Broadband users.

Maybe its just I have no pitty for these cheap fools who refuse to get DSL or cable, I do not see why we should live with an ATS with ugly green buttons. Here I thought you where going to make a brand new Green Matter or something, add even more graphic quality.

Perhaps, like many sites, you could offer a slow bandwith and high bandwith entrance.

Yes. We have quite a bit of email through the contact form over this issue. Those alone would not sway me... but combined with the raw data, it creates a need.

Jesus Christ.

Have you ever loaded the AOL homepage? How about MSN? Yahoo?

These dial up slugs would take 10 mins just to download their own homepage!

Just remember. You dampen OUR experience as active posters who make this site what it is to pander to the few who are technologically retarded.

Personally, I would think that an experienced and tenured member, such as yourself, would Get It. That and could appreciate the overall desire to ensure that which we hold dear to be experienced by as broad an audience possible. (?)

By using CSS buttons as opposed to images, the pages load more quickly for slower connections. Your's included, no matter if it be a T1 on 'roids... due to faster server response resultant from a lightened pageload and fewer image/http calls.

I'd wager that Slow drivers in the Fast lane draw a similar response. Eh?

Oh I understand for sure....

But..

When a dial up user loads a page.. what takes so long to load?

THE BUTTONS????? NOOOOOO I DONT THINK SO.

The buttons are just a tiny bit of the "problem" .. so if we are to be really friendly to these dialup users we should probably expect to see a few more ugly buttons all over the place.

You can count on it. Maybe they will take away our bars again. But it won't be left to just the buttons.
