I know that multiple myeloma is cancer in the plasma. I know the survival rate for one year is 87%, I know the survival rate for 5 years drops to 33%. If anyone has any other stats about this, I would like to know.

My mom is 59 years old, She has leaky heart valves, and is on 2 different blood thinners, I'm not sure about any other health issues.

She went to the hospital 2 months ago with back and neck pain, they did x-rays on her neck and found a mass in her first vertebra, it was cancer, She immediately started radiation treatment on the cancer. The doctors where hoping it was the single type of cancer, and not the multiple type, she underwent many scans and test, at first nothing showed up on here spinal cord scans, but 2 weeks ago lesions where found on her spine, and other test confirmed she has multiple myeloma.

She has started chemotherapy, as of this monday. She will continue this treatment till the end of January or the beginning of Febuary. She will then be admitted into the hospital, they will extract bone marrow for a future marrow transplant, they will treat this marrow. She will undergo massive chemo at this point, then they will do the transplant. She is in a stem cell research study group: Washington University Becomes Member of Major Cancer Research Consortium

Any other information I can get will be helpful.

I will say a prayer for your mom. Do not forget to love her as much as you can in case things do not work out. I lost my mom 2 years ago to the Marlboro man.

Good luck, and if there is a god I hope he is with you and your family in this time of need.

X

This is very unsettling news for you and those that you love. It doesn't sound like the prognosis is very positive.

Prayer can represent active concern and is a gift that can't easily be explained. Take hope in the knowing that others will pray for you and yours, regardless of religious/or lack thereof, beliefs.

I will also take the time and pray for higher light to oversee your current situation.

May the force be with you and be true to yourself.

I have known I had myeloma for nearly 5 years now. I have had many treatments, including an autologous stem cell transplant. It's essential that your mom sees an MM specialist, not just any hem/onc. There are mailing lists where you can connect with lots of MM patients and caregivers, too: web.mmsupport.net...
www.acor.org.... You can learn from the experiences of others. Getting the right doctor can increase survival, believe me. There are just some out there that don't have enough experience with this rare cancer.

You can read about my own experience with this cancer at www.myelomablog.com. I started it in April, 2003, about 4 months after I found out I had MM.

You can find lists of cancer-fighting foods and herbs at Newstarget.
Newstarget

Raw foods and herbs naturally contain cancer-fighting ingredients, otherwise, we'd all be dead of cancer.

Here's a good article: Nutrients in cruciferous vegetables found to induce death of cancer cells

Good luck to your mother.

Thank you very much
So how are you? What kind of experience have you had with this? If you don't mind sharing.

I have sent the links and told her to sign up.

Thanks for all the advise.

I think it would be good if your mother eats lots of apples and other foods with b17 you can do a Google to find more foods.

Also there was a diet that a saw not to long ago that had a 90% cure rate of almost all types of cancers, the guy that made it was a Nobel prize winner...here is the link

90% cancer cure diet

don't take that diet to likely, i would imagine that it would do more harm than good in the long run, but the idea of eating allot of cottage cheese is really good for the body...so i would probably just suggest cottage cheese and apples...but also read over the article

I am in the process of building some new dc current wrist devices and stuff, if you want i can make one or 2 and send them to you...but its really easy to make, you can probably get the stuff from home depo...all you need is a battery holder, some batteries, and cloth and glue gun. But i would honestly if you get any chance read that yahoo group site i posted, it has lots of information that can save your moms life...there have been people that posted that say they saw cancer go into remission...

also there were many threads on this site of cancer treatments and cures from around the world, some not even noticed by many...

www.abovetopsecret.com...

take care man, you and your mother...

It's difficult to post to this.

Mom is seeing a myeloma specialist and she is in a stem cell research group. She started chemo therapy on Oct 15. On Friday Oct 19 mom woke up to goto work, she said she felt fine, but she fainted in the bathroom, her husband heard her fall and when he saw her she was on the floor with her eyes wide open, but she was unconscious. He called 911 and within just a minute she was awake, they took her to the hospital with the sirens on. She was admitted and didn't get out till Sunday.

I really hope she isn't to the point of the good days vs. bad days already in her struggle with this.

Thanks for all the prayers and information, I will continue to post updates as or soon after they happen.

I can't describe what this is doing to her, and the rest of the family.
