A Flame floating on a river?

Ok ill get straight to the point.
I have just been out walking the dog. Its dark and im by the side of the river , im am also on the outskirts of the city , so its quiet.
And then i see a flicker in the middle of the river , a small but very bright glow.
I get closer to examine it and i realise its not a reflection of light and whats more its floating , so i follow it along .
Imagine the flame of a candle because this is how i can only describe it .
So there it is a flame floating on the river , it never went out but i had to stop following it .
The only thing i think it could be is some form of glow in the dark float that someone fishing earlier in the day had left behind or throw it loose.
But im not convinced that is what it was.
Could anybody out there shed some light on this please...

I fish at night ALOT. I use the light sticks, exactly like these

They come in all different sizes and colors. Some are extermely bright for their size. Yes they do float.

Yeah i thought so . Never seen one before tho so it did seem strange to me.
