I feel there’s a growing number of Americans who are beyond reform. They are like a cancer that consumes our collective energy, and prohibits any real efforts to improve our country by their constant backbiting and negativity. They exercise their freedom of speech purely for hateful purposes, and cowardly attack any signs of individuality wherever it grows. They reminds me of the old Scottish saying “ All bite the bitten dog,” as they feed off each other, snipping at whoever’s currently under fire, paying no thought to their own pathetic lives and offering only wounding comments. Sadly, their reckless, presumptuous, and venomous posting on Youtube, and countless other sites confirms a thriving population. They are of all ages, races, and political backgrounds, but they’re united by a common desire to hate everything, and everyone who stands apart from the pack. They are a gutless people who need to be cut from the healthy body in order for it to heal.

The conspiracy?
Undeniably much of the blame goes to our media, who seems to lump people into groups to better control them, and pokes fun of anyone who wanders away from the herd mentality. This public ridiculing seems to deter independent thinking, consequently Americans have developed a great fear of being ostracized, so they themselves become the attackers.

I guess I could be biased, or hypersensitive since I’ve been involved with a social experiment that exposes for me personally the dark heart of humanity, but I think I’m just seeing things as they really are.

What is this social experiment?

Personally I think Humanity, when challenged, has a wonderful heart, at least those I know. Although none of us are perfect.

And I do not see much hate here at all. There are many people with different opinions, sometimes they flare up. I don't see gang stalking of one person by others of a same thought. It seems to be people discussing the things on their mind?

Could you be more specific as to what you see that is nasty on the boards?

The Techno Viking is please with your message.

All of your existence attempts to prepare us for the cowards they want us to be because cowards do not make decisions. You are told how to look, what to eat, how to talk, what to read, when to be happy, when to be angry.

Cowards to not think for themselves, and they like that.

Be your own as I am mine.

I don’t want to get into the particulars of what the social experiment is about, since I’m still writing about it. But it has to do with rumor spreading and peoples eagerness to take advantage of someone they think is weaker then them, or someone they perceive as vulnerable.

And yes I haven’t seen much hate on this board, but others are riddled with it. It doesn’t take much digging to see the cruel, useless comments people leave for each other every second of the day.

I believe that to be a portagese proverb. Unless given as direction.

Some say it’s Portuguese, some say it’s Scottish - you can go with whatever you’d like, but I think it holds true.

Oh yeah, Media is de-moralizing the whole world. The ever-deepening moral content of today's TV/Music/Internet content is like a big shoe stomping on our standards of, at least, common decency.
I don't think I'm alone in thinking this old-fashoned way, but, I know I'm in the minority. We is gettin' ugly!

(PS- I was raised by Mom, so she drilled into me that courtesy should come first and I shouldn't do those things that will most likely bring me shame. Ya know...look before you leap. Measure twice, cut once. All those goody two-shoes crap I didn't heed until it cost me. I try to be a good person now instead of impulsive and needing instant-gratification. Our modern era almost makes it impossible, though.)

Isn't that the truth.

I find myself being more on the defensive when dealing with the unwashed masses. It's a shame because I rather enjoy being civil.
Face to face behavior is deteriorating in part due to people be isolated. With cell phones glued to the ear or the ipod separating you from the folk around you, it is no wonder no one remembers how to act.

All good things to live by, I also try to be humble and honest, looking at things with precision, not spin. It seems so many people want to distract people from simply looking at what is true and plain. Song and dance to obscure truth. It forces a person that cares about truth to cut away the fat and look at what is real.

The poster that mentioned unwashed masses, who are these people? Do you mean when you go out, or do I misunderstand the context?

One tiny reason I think we’re on a moral plummet; young people harbor so much hate, and insecurity that they can’t grasp self-deprecating humor. Although most young people want to be funny, and truly believe that they’re outrageously funny, they often resort to the lowest form of comedy: trying to get laughs by making fun of someone else. This imo is the un-funniest thing you can do. There’s been plenty of bits on You tube where comics make fun of themselves only to be berated by a squad of bloodthirsty idiots who view it as weakness. Why anyone would want to post a video there is beyond me. Sure comedy is a subjective thing, but are we really so thick?

Hi Redge, you had it right. I was referring to the general public.
depressing state of affairs isn't it.

Two non-conspiracy related books that convinced me it's a combination of the media and group mentality are "Influence" by Cialdini, and "The Crowd" by Gustav LeBon. Another great one is called "Media Mythmakers."

Influence shows actual scientific studies regarding the various types of influence. Media Mythmakers shows how those types of influence are exploited by the media. "The Crowd" I cannot recommend enough, although it is a bit dry.

It breaks down the mentality of a large group of people so well, that it scared me and made a huge impression upon my thinking ever since reading it. It basically says that once a group of people gets to a certain size, it no longer works on logic or reason, but emotion. There are many reasons for this, however some key ones are that a group is only as smart as the dumbest person, and that it takes too long to explain something complex to a crowd, since it must be phrased in many ways for everyone to understand; hence, catering to emotions and passions are the ONLY way to win a crowd over, no matter how good your argument is, or how bad the other argument is.

Sad, but true. Perhaps after the next evolution in man will take care of that.

here is a link to the Crowd in it's entirety:

etext.virginia.edu...

from the preface:

The most striking peculiarity presented by a psychological crowd is the following: Whoever be the individuals that compose it, however like or unlike be their mode of life, their occupations, their character, or their intelligence, the fact that they have been transformed into a crowd puts them in possession of a sort of collective mind which makes them feel, think, and act in a manner quite different from that in which each individual of them would feel, think, and act were he in a state of isolation. There are certain ideas and feelings which do not come into being, or do not transform themselves into acts except in the case of individuals forming a crowd.

from chapter 1:

Ideas being only accessible to crowds after having assumed a very simple shape must often undergo the most thoroughgoing transformations to become popular. It is especially when we are dealing with somewhat lofty philosophic or scientific ideas that we see how far-reaching are the modifications they require in order to lower them to the level of the intelligence of crowds. These modifications ... (are) belittling and in the direction of simplification.

The power of words is bound up with the images they evoke, and is quite independent of their real significance. Words whose sense is the most ill-defined are sometimes those that possess the most influence. Such, for example, are the terms democracy, socialism, equality, liberty, &c., whose meaning is so vague that bulky volumes do not suffice to precisely fix it. Yet it is certain that a truly magical power is attached to those short syllables, as if they contained the solution of all problems. They synthesise the most diverse unconscious aspirations and the hope of their realisation.

Reason and arguments are incapable of combatting certain words and formulas. They are uttered with solemnity in the presence of crowds, and as soon as they have been pronounced an expression of respect is visible on every countenance, and all heads are bowed. By many they are considered as natural forces, as supernatural powers.

An excellent topic!

I am relatively young, but in my years, I have seen a marked decline in simple social grace, and what was once called common decency.

I blame bollywood for the general decline of America.
Think how many people (tens of millions) sit every day watching garbage like daytime TV, tmz, entertaiment tonight, 'reality' shows and all similar garbage.
It is mindless, and it programs kids to think all the base human characteristics are completely NORMAL! It is now the ME generation, and it's pretty shallow. It is called the boob tube for a reason.
Since my kids and I watch about 10-20 hours of TV per YEAR now days, I can't say what 'limits' or social barriers bollywood is trying to crush now, but of one thing I am certain.
It will not be healthy for young kids. Or 'adults'.

if we are going to start pointing fingers, I would suggest pointing the first finger at the education system - NOT the teachers, or the kids.

The media should be free to do what it wishes - as long as the public is educated enough to understand the effects of the media, and how to make proper judgments.

Thanks. I'll check out your recommendations!

Hitler certainly understood this concept having reputedly said:

“And remember this: the bigger the crowd the more easily it is swayed. Also the more you mingle the classes - peasants, workers, black-coated workers - the more surely you will achieve the typical mass character.”

And

“Don’t waste time over “intellectual” meetings and groups drawn together by mutual interests. Anything you may achieve with such folk today by means of reasonable explanation may be erased tomorrow by an opposite explanation. But what you tell the people in the mass, in a receptive state of fanatic devotion, will remain like words received under a hypnotic influence , ineradicable, and impervious to every reasonable explanation. But just as the individual has neuroses which must not be disturbed, so the mass has its complexes that must not be awakened…The entire weight of the masses rests on the party, and the party is itself a constituent part of the mass…mastery always means the transmission of a stronger will to a weaker one. How shall I press my will upon my opponent? By first splitting and paralyzing his will, putting him at loggerheads with himself, throwing him into confusion."

And

"It’s good fortune for the government that the masses don’t think, otherwise human society as we know it might cease to exist.”

Wow to have that guys oratory skills!

Sexiesadie, How can you admire a man like Hitler when he was responsible for millions of people dying in world war two? You need to find peace in your life. I hope you find it. I have found mine. I found God when I was 6 years old, and Jesus when I was 30. I'm now 68 and going on to forever. Some people are in for a rude awakening soon. Oh, Yes, I have seen heaven, and it is beautiful. I died once 20 years ago and was brought back to tell my friends the good news. So, now my friends, have a good life. I also believe in UFO's. Peace be with you all.

Relax. I'm only saying he had superb oratory skills - nothing else. To deny he this would be ignorant.

absolutely. In fact, "The Crowd" was first published in 1895, and Hitler indeed read it. This was before there was an internet, so it was a pretty big deal to have this knowledge.

The Media can be good and Bad. They report the truth and that can be a good thing. I don't like it when the media gives their opioun. There are a lot of people in America who are trying to make a change and fix the mess. Then there are a lot of Americans who are sucking up their pay checks and not doing a thing.

I commend those who are trying to make a difference since it is not a easy thing to do.

For those who can't help or are not willing to help. You will be suprised what 1 hour or less out of your day can do for someone else.
