STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- U.S. citizens Mario R. Capecchi and Oliver Smithies and Sir Martin J. Evans of Britain won the 2007 Nobel Prize in medicine on Monday for ground breaking discoveries that led to a technique for manipulating mouse genes.
The widely used process has helped scientists use mice to study heart disease, diabetes, cancer, cystic fibrosis and other diseases.

I think this was a very wise choice from the Nobel committee, as it will help millions of people who suffer from diabetes, cancer and other related illnesses.
Some people in my own family have died of diabetes and cancer, so I see this as a glimmer of hope, in case there is a chance that I, my family members or anybody for that matter develop one of these terrible illnesses.
It is also a huge step forward into forwarding our medical techniques and practices.
