Guardian

A DNA researcher has claimed to create a synthetic chromosome out of laboratory chemicals. Not sure how legite this is but sounds like a major scientific breakthrough in the creation of artifical life. This is headed down the path of "designer" life forms created for a specific task.

Again, it remains open to scrutiny by his peers, but interesting none the less.

Scientist has already created synthetic lifeforms, I believe we have a few threads on it already.

About this article, I believe it to be possible, since it is believed the first strings of any 'life' was RNA-strings made non-artificially.

According to the article its the first of its kind. They call it the "first new artifical life on earth". I'm not aware of a new bacteria being created in a lab before this, although I could be wrong.
