How can a plane lose radar contact? I also saw another story about a plane crashing today that lost radar contact. I will find that and post it.

For some reason, many planes are losing radar contact lately. Anyonw else know of any more plane stories?

Okay, I found the other article...

Another Plane Lost Contact

The pilot of the single-engine Piper PA-28 was talking to air traffic controllers in San Diego about 12:42 a.m. when they lost communication and the plane vanished from the radar, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.

And lets not forget Steve Fossett. His plane disappeared around the same area didn't it? I'm still searching for more information to try to find more disappearing planes.

Actually, that second story refers to a plane whose wreckage was recovered. Also, that plane had been flying in very poor weather conditions. The weather conditions also sound like they were not the best in the case of the missing plane from the first article as well.

I don't know enough about traffic control to understand the radar system. Even if they were in bad weather, how could they be off radar for FIVE hours before crashing?

Here is another piece on the accident:

Three dead in air-ambulance crash

All three people aboard a medical flight that crashed early this morning in southwestern Colorado died in the accident, authorities said today.

The downed plane was carrying a doctor, a paramedic and a flight nurse, said 1st Lt. Steve Hamilton of the Colorado Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.

One of the three on board also had piloted the plane, Hamilton said.
