A dugout is a boat made out of a single log.

They carve out the inside and shape the outside until it resembles something like a canoe.

Interesting story but I hope they find a few more things.

I hope they can bring that fishing fence to the surface, and some of the other finds, or at the least get some underwater video footage.

Archaeology is fascinating!!

These types of dugouts or Einbaum (one tree) as they are called in Germany are common.
They date back as far as the stone age in some cases. The American Indiana also fashioned canoes from a single tree as well as birch bark and animal skins. Although this is not an unusual find it is exciting for the discoverer to locate these items especially, underwater.
