Mason calendar and 2012

Why are all Mason groups using a different Calendar ?

For symbolic purposes. For example, the Blue Lodge's calendar, Anno Lucis or A.L., means "in the year of light", and refers to the traditional Judeo-Christian method of dating the creation of the universe, which they used to believe happened in 4000 B.C. Therefore, to get the A.L. date, we add 4,000 to the current year.

Masonic Knights Templar date the calendar A.O., Anno Ordinis, "in the year of the Order", which refers to the founding of the Knights Templar in 1118 A.D. Therefore, 1119 A.D. is the year 1 A.O., and so on.
