U.S. Is Top Arms Seller to Developing World

www.nytimes.com

The United States maintained its role as the leading supplier of weapons to the developing world in 2006, followed by Russia and Britain, according to a Congressional study to be released Monday. Pakistan, India and Saudi Arabia were the top buyers.

The global arms market is highly competitive, with manufacturing nations seeking both to increase profits and to expand political influence through weapons sales to developing nations, which reached nearly $28.8 billion in 2006.

Looks like money is still good. While United States sells enormous ammounts of weapons to countries such as Pakistan and India (which do not like each other very much) - on the other hand, Russia is selling weapons to countries such as Venezuela and Iran. Everybody fueling the other side in the conflict - and money is still good if you are an arms seller.

This does not surprise me at all, It takes alot of hard work spreading peace throughout the world.

If I'm not mistaken America has always been one of the leading exporter of weapons for decades.

I'm surprised Israel wasn't on that list.

We better watch out for Brazil.

ok my bad it is on the list

If we don't supply them with arms, when we invade them down the road, how will they fight back?

The irony in this is that we invariably wind up on the other side of the weapons.

The title is, arms sales to DEVELOPING countries.

Israel is kind of already developed - when comparing to India or Pakistan.
