I'm sorry, but the vast majority of troops these days have absolutely nothing to do with protecting America. You could cut the Armed Forces down to just nukes and still be able to repel any threat of invasion to this country.

I shouldn't argue with your statement since it proves you have never been in the military, but..

Yeah, we should cut out the human element and just use bombs. Grand idea. There will always be a need for soldiers, been that way since the beginning.. will be that way when you and I are dust.

There are more soldiers that have NEVER fired a shot in battle than that have. I guess that makes them murderers by association?

That sounds nice. Have you got a substantive argument to back up your assertion that we need more than strategic nukes?

I never said that Iraq War veterans did not deserve respect, only that none of them deserve the demigod status that some have afforded them.

I'm just saying, is such hero worship wise, especially when it is strewn far and wide to our soldiers, without regard to what it was they actually did?

You need to respect soldiers as well as everyone else. A soldier bleeds the same way you do. Has feelings the same you do. Has a family the same way you do. Cry’s the same you do.

Soldier’s did not necessarily go into the military to go off to war and kill someone. For the most part they went in for a living. A place to eat, sleep, make life long friends, have a paycheck.

Now I know it becomes extremely sad when the government calls our men and sadly our women into action, but by then it’s too late to say, “Oh, no I don’t want to go to war.” Then they’ll go to prison. It’s a terrible choice at that point.

However, just because they are in uniform should not make you hate them. Like another poster said, our men have fought for our freedom’s.

What is sad and messed up is when the commander in chief who is the leader of our men, call our men into action in another country that has nothing to do with us, or no threat to us. It could be their own civil war and we go and get involved.

That is where it’s messed up at. That’s who people like you should be mad at. Not the one’s who isn’t making the choice. But, the leaders that made our men go.

True at this point it is voluntary men. However, when the draft comes (I believe there will be one day) it is still not the men’s fault. Again, you serve or go to prison. According to our man made laws. So the men are the pawns who are serving the king (president).

Wow, that was a snotty and poorly reasoned response. Here in America, we are free men and women. We owe no "duty" to fight and die, especially not in the name of tyranny and greed.

Words nearly fail me...so, you're saying, in effect, that Mafia hitmen are to be respected, even if the boss is not?
