Let's step back a bit. China invading through Mexico and Cuba? Wasn't it the Russians in "Red Dawn"? Wolverines! Oh wait, that was just Hollywood propaganda to garner support for the Mujadine fighters in Afghanistan. What are those guys called now? Tal...something or Al'q... somesuch? Oh forget about it. It was just a movie, and now some people here think it can happen in real life? There's a new game out where Russians invade disguised as cargo ships in the Northwest or Seattle area, should we flip that around and expect the Chinese through that door too?

Truly the Chinese are a world player now, and we have to accept that. As an American I have been saying this for over a decade now. It's pretty freaking obvious if you ask me.

I was in Taiwan about half a year ago and asked some people there about China. The big news while I was there was that (surprise surprise) China had been churning out amphibious assault vehicles right and left. So this is actually pretty old news and a pretty common event for China.

Standing in the middle of Shang Kai Shek (I hope I am spelling that at least close to correctly) memorial, one guy leaned over to me and asked me to guess how many missiles were pointed straight at me at that exact time and place and THAT is pretty freaky to think about. You gotta hand it to the Taiwanese living under the gun like that.

Anyway back to the "word on the street". The Taiwanese people I talked to about China becoming aggressive had this to say about it: "Are you nuts!?! And throw away their chance at hosting the Olympics!?!" So basically we are all safe until 2009 was their understanding of the situation. That and the general understanding of the order of battle would be massive rocket strikes to take out infrastructure followed closely by massive amphibious assaults. The Taiwanese people have to expect to hold out for 7 days until the US fleet can get into position.

So were all safe until 2009, unless we do something stupid to make it happen. Something that would outweigh the financial and political benefits that the Olympics could have on a Chinese economy. Something like further destabilizing the mid east, or some kind of internal strife in the mainland, or even the US (that is us, snicker puny) finally doing the right thing and taking our WoT into Pakistan...

here in the us, even in liberal california, a great number of the population is armed and and not just with pea shooters either, I am sure we wont make it easy if they try to invade

Why would the Chinese initiate a war with the U.S.? What on earth would they hope to gain? Our 9 trillion dollar debt? Or maybe they want our jobs? Oh wait, they already HAVE them through outsourcing. Oh, I know, wait, they want to kidnap our president so he can wisely rule China, as he is in America?

The Chinese are an extremely old civilization. They have learned that war can be waged through many other avenues, such as financial, political, etc. They are known to be inscrutable and circumspect for good reason, they don't usually care for direct confrontation. It isn't in their nature at this point in history to initiate a war for no reason, unlike America and its stated foreign policy and actions.

Read the book, "The Art of War" by IIRC, Lao Tsu. It's a very ancient book about how to fight an enemy with strategy, cool analysis and forethought. That pretty much sums up the Chinese mindset regarding conflict. It is anything but directly confrontational. They are intelligent, careful people as a whole and I think their govt. is mostly interested in building up China's strength right now.

Maybe China knows something that we don't, i.e. maybe they're preparing to defend themselves from a U.S. attack, anyone think of that? Not that I think that's likely, but it's at least more realistic than China attacking us for no reason.

If America is so great, than how come we don't have enough money or soldiers to send to China to defend ourselves? Hell, we don't have enough soldiers or money to go into Iran.

THis is, in fact, the first time since the Vietnam War that we don't have any troops at the ready, prepared to send soldiers anywhere in the world within 24 hours in order to defend ourselves. We're stretched way too thin, so that now we don't even have the ability to defend ourselves should we be attacked. I got that from an Army Intelligence friend just 3 days ago. America is fast falling apart and going down the tubes. We all have to deal with it here in the U.S. and face the facts.

Americans can no longer afford our arrogance and naivety, but it looks like some are still hanging onto it, despite reality.

China doesn't have the resources or flexibility to attack america, their millitary may be absolutely massive but if the US threw all it's weight while being attacked on the home front any opposing aggressor would be splattered. Not to mention the fact that their attacking a country of people who believe in their freedom and seeing as the majority of american households have firearms china would face some form of geurilla warfare aswell.

I highly doubt there has ever been or will ever (atleast in the forseeable future) be a chinese military presence anywhere near America.

Ok, lets re-rail this thread and address the main point here.

China is not going to attack America. China are not getting ready for a war. China are merely doing what they have always done, which is spend billions on their military. The thing is, with modern communication and the internet, the information is now accessible more freely. The result of this, is that people take the slightest thing out of context, add it to some rancid NWO/End of Days/WWIII scenario and *boom* places like ATS are full of wannabe deluded freedom fighters who don't actually know what or who they would be fighting. Coupled with a fuelled fantasy which spirals from people posting semi-cold war propaganda rubbish or just plain ignorant threads like this.

The posts which dntwastetime, clearly shows the level of ignorance of a person. It is NOT SPECIFIC TO AMERICANS - PLEASE DON'T TAR A COUNTRY with the same brush as an individual - they are not one & the same. We get opinions here, not a demographic representation of a nation.

You know, ATS is a fantastic place for people to discuss all these things, but the unfortunate reality is that it attracts the lonely, paranoid, mentally unhinged and the just plain ignorant. Either way, ATS quite kindly gives us access to this site for free and all the information it holds. A small thing they ask in return is to show fellow posters a little common respect, no matter how passionately we disagree.

For the record, I'm not a sceptic on certain topics discussed here. And I do not place myself over & above other peoples opinions. Afterall, I'm merely offering mine.

But I will say this - America's war machine hasn't even been started yet. Remember people, that we are not technicially at war. It's an operation in iraq. (And the wooo "War on Terror" .... which enemy is that again?! LOL)
The whole force for the operation in iraq / afghanny are volunteers enlisted in the armed forces and civilian contractors! I'd HARDLY call that America's war machine.

For those of you who think that America is on her last legs - you need to re-evaluate yourself. America's economy is apparently (for now) on the rebound (despite the housing market, and the Iraqi sink-hole fund).

America's war machine hasn't been illustrated since WWII. Go read some AMAZING American history and learn why America, and her people, should not be underestimated and simply brushed aside.

Why- Probably in response to any aggressive move America might take. They very well could back Iran or Venezuela... In 2000 one of Bush's campaign points was that the US shouldn't be the worlds police (irony), maybe China might decide it's their turn. This is how WORLD Wars start. Hate to say it (I truly love my country), but our government is turning us into the evil empire we used to be the white knights fighting.

How- Don't the Chinese own a huge chunk of our T-Bills now-a-days? I don't think it would be hard for them to cripple our economy that way. OR, cyber terrorism... OR, that huge army and navy they have built...

The Russians don't have "Super Carriers" only the US has Super Carriers. Russia does not even have aircraft Carriers the Kiev being more of a helecopter carrier than an aircraft carrier. The next nation with large Carriers comparable to the US is France and it has only 2.

Britain's aircraft carreirs are more like support carriers from WW2.

The US has 2.5 million men in the military, and 140,000 are in Iraq; the US is not stretched thin when it comes to mobilization merely stretched thin when it comes to mobilized forces.
