I was thinking the same thing. Given he is essentially centrist by Indian political standards, and has moved away from the more overtly Socialist policies of the INC, this could just be another ploy to shore up more support from religious groups who might otherwise support the Bharatiya Janata Party

I didn't see an interview. Nice site, though. A good start and pretty good machine translation to English. The part I like the best was that it had no smut (cleavage, etc).
