“Water undoubtedly is the most important chemical substance in the world,” explained Elmar Fuchs and colleagues from the Graz University of Technology in Austria in a recent study. “The interaction of water with electric fields has been intensely explored over the last years. We report another unusual effect of liquid water exposed to a dc electric field: the floating water bridge.”

I`ve heard of surface tension, but this is something else.

Bridas.

They didn't mention if they were able to make this happen on a bigger scale. That would be pretty cool if they could since they would have a chance to have somebody walk on water if the surface tension was strong enough. Thanks for posting this info.

Very cool find !!

I too wonder, with enough
voltage, if it could be ex-
panded.

Something to keep an eye
on, for sure !

If possible that would make a pretty cool security door.

Picture a doorway with a groove filled with water cut in the floor. With enough control thin horizontal bars of water could be elevated in rapid succession to create a water door. When deactivated they would be lowered back into the common pool in the groove.

They'd be zapped. It's high voltage. apc's security door idea is more feasible, methinks.
