29 Sep 07, 18:43
Ko Hla: Ngwe-Kyar-Yan monastery, which was raided by SPDC in early morning Thursday, is in immediate cover-up. So that when the envoy from UN comes to check at it, the monastery will look like nothing has happened.

29 Sep 07, 18:42
Ko Hla: From Internal Source: Now, a split within Myanmar’s ruling junta has emerged. Several ministers such as Aung Thaung, Maung Thaung, Kyaw Hsan, Maung Oo and Thein Zaw are on Gen. Than Shwe side. Generals split between those who want to follow General Than Shwe and those who want to follow Gen. Maung Aye. According to a brigadier general, Gen. Maung Aye gave command the military force to short to the people who loot and destroy public’s properties. But Gen. Than Shwe followers do not agree with that command. That BG also suggests the protesters should not shout slogan against the entire military force.

Burma Myanmar Genocide:

I already reported that yesterday.

The CB at ko htike is up again.

Seems like today is less violent than yesterday, with the UN present and everything. Only scattered reports of single unconfirmed deaths. Protests seem peaceful so far.

Does this mean some of the military are opposed to what is happening ? JacKatMtn posted this yesterday...

I wonder whether a coup is possible or has happened ?

Peace

It is mainly confusion at the moment. It has been confirmed that certian military units have changed sides, but numbers and names are lacking.
Hopefully there is a split in the leadership. That would mean that the foundations of the dictatorship is cracking.

I truly hope there are cracks within the leadership of the military, Raud. So we can see a fast and peaceful resolution to all this...And who knows, maybe even a transition to a more peaceful and just Myanmar over the longer term...

The people of Myanmar don't deserve this, after all the hardship they have to go thru day to day...

Peace

P.S - thanks to you, DWT, Drozla and others for keeping us updated on what's going on over there...This issue has really struck a chord with me and has me interested and hopeful this all works out for the best

cgiirc (direct translation from DVB radio by username "BetterMyanmar"):

BetterMyanmar: Today is 12th day of monks' demonstration.
Yesterday night, military raided other monasteries in other townships, but residents protected monks.
Yangon - Young students are very active in protests. The students' age ranged from 5th Standard to 10th Standard. Those students are protesting in different areas despite tight security in Yangon.

Mizzima:

(Burmese Standard Time)

4:30 p.m
Monks detained inside monasteries in Mandalay

Security forces continue to guard all the monasteries in Mandalay and impose restrictions on movement of monks, effectively barring monks from protesting.

" The forces have cordoned off several monasteries including Ma Soe Yein and Mya Taung with barbed wires so that the monks cannot come out of the monasteries to protest. And fully armed soldiers guard the monasteries. Because of the blockade monks are heard shouting from inside," an eyewitness told Mizzima.

The eyewitness added that novices and young monks have been ordered to go back to their native places by police officials.

Another eyewitness said the Mandalay prisons director with two vehicles from the transport corporation department took several prisoners to a field in the foot of the Mandalay hill and asked a barber to shave off their heads.

The eyewitness added that the authorities are forcing the prisoners to act as monks to create confusion and misunderstanding among the monks as well as the public so that they lose faith in the Buddhist clergy.

More translations by "BetterMyanmar" from DVB radio (Democratic Voice of Burma), taken from cgiirc:

Around 3PM, Pan Soe Dan Street, Yangon - 200 or 300 students and many civilians are protesting. I heard a gunshot. I don't know if it's rubber bullet. They also interfere civilians meeting with students. Military is now blocking the ways to get to Traders Hotel around 10 PM today while they usually block around 12 PM. All ways are blocked. Around 12 PM, there was heavy rain.
5PM, Yangon - Protesters were shot and arrested. Many monks were arrested. 300 Monks were arrested in Insein Prison. Those monks were tried to change back to human, but one of the head of monks refused. Monks were arrested beside Garage near GTI school. Yesterday, military ordered to take the robe of the monk who was with a gunshot in his leg. However, doctors cured the monk. The monk even said don't cure me if u are going to take off my robe.
Mr. Gambari will be taken to Nay Pyi Taw or Myit Kyee Nar.
Today, the military are restraint. There's a special weapon in the soldiers' hands.
"Col. Than Han and Aung Thaung created a violence group to kill people. The soldiers who are known as Army Division 77 and killed people are not actually from ARmy division 77" says an anonymous officer from Army Division 77.
Right now, Burmese people from other countries are afraid of Military's lies to Mr. Gambari.
Kyite Ka San Stadium (horse race track /Raud) in Yangon is a temporary prison for people who participated in protests.
GTI (Govt. Tech. Institute) is also a place to detain people who particpated in protests.
88 students have formed People's Army with other 8 groups.

Heard at cgiirc:

People are content with today's protests style. They group and disperse when they see Soldiers. Making soldiers fools.
(Author - Nay Min Htut Khaung From Myochitmyanmar's Blog- translation: "BetterMyanmar")

At 8pm, we will hit the "Kyay Si" (A traditional instrument to make a sound) to comemorate fallen Monks Heroes and people. This is also a sign of opposition against military. Please spread that news.
