U.S. Trying to Block Calif. on Emissions

The Bush administration has conducted a concerted, behind-the-scenes lobbying campaign to try to generate opposition to California's request to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks, according to documents obtained by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Any movement to limit greenhouse gases or pollution is good, right? Then why is the Bush administration trying to block California's initiative to raise the bar? It seems that the present administration represents the oil lobby and not the American people.

Is there no end to this regime's hubris?

I find the Republicans understanding of emissions to be very black and white.

It's my belief that they believe whats good for the planet is bad for the economy, and hence bad for America.

What they don't seem to realize is that these 'tree huggers' are actually ensuring that same economy is going to have something to feed off of for many more years.

Preserve your natural resources and they'll be there for you in the future.
