Iran's Ahmadinejad to speak at US university

www.telegraph.co.uk

Iran's president is set to use a speech at a leading US university to challenge George W Bush at a time of high tensions with Washington over his country's pursuit of nuclear weapons and its support for insurgents in Iraq.

About time we will be able to listen to the man directly to see if he is either a mud splattered farmer or has any degree of intelligence.
His fashion sense could with a spruce up though !

Intelligence, eloquence and passion do not always equate to rational reasoning or valuable ideas. Iran's president has very little credibility with me personally. Unless his actions change his propaganda tours and immature speeches mean little.

Sounds very interesting to me. Maybe it will make it harder for the Bush administration to make everybody living in the middle east look like insane terrorists. Its an illusion that works because of the ignorance of the people.

When was the last time you saw a story about the middle east that didnt involve a threat? Doesnt it make you wonder why the mass media is only showing you that stuff? Doesnt it make you think that maybe, just maybe, there is more to these countries than terrorism?

Please watch Women of the israeli army. These are some of the middle east people Bush wants to drag into a global war. How come you dont see this reality on your television screens? Think about it. The majority of these people are JUST LIKE US.

Stop hating the world!

I don't know where the hell people get that he's some stupid crazy idiot. We know thats what George W. Bush is, now that's obvious... but the Iran president? It's as if people are actually listening and believing the American mainstream media and their hit job of translations.

From the letter that I've read, that Mr. Ahmadinejad sent to Mr. Bush a while ago as an attempt of sharing his oppinions and having some diplomacy -- Mr. Ahmadinejad sounded like an extremely intelligent and quite a nice guy. He actually seemed to be switched on... unlike the majority of Americans, who still believe the bullcrap their media spouts about how he called for the 'destruction of a country' etc. What a joke.

I find it very ironic and quite hilarious though, how people will be so quick to judge Mr. Ahmadinejad based on pretty much nothing -- when their own president is very well known to be far worse.

The hypocrisy is outstanding.

They tolled him you can go to ground zero so they let him make some speech at an university.
He will, I think, demonstrate that Iran want stability because the real power is held by the supreme spiritual boss, currently the Ayatollah Khamenei.
It is supported by a "Supreme consul" and a "Counsel of the experts". This people are in control of the army, the Police, the nuclear program and all the instruments of the national strength. The supreme spiritual boss did not only pronounce a fatwa [decree of a religious authority specialist of the Islamic right] that says that the nuclear weapons are incompatible with the Islamic right and with Shiite faith, of which it is responsible.
In 2003 Ayatollah Khamenei contacted the Bush administration by the bias of the Switzerland embassy to say: "We would want to normalize our relations with the United States. We would like to release a process that would drive to a peace agreement between Israel and the Iran."
Can you imagine that, Israel and Iran? He did not say: "We want to wipe out Israel of the card." He said: "We want the peace with Israel." And Iran was ready to put his nuclear program on the table.

Why the Bush administration didn’t accepted this offer? Because it would result in a normalization process forcing the United States to recognize the legitimacy of Iran and to declare itself ready to a peaceful coexistence.
Now, the Bush administration will do nothing for a recognition in this matter. It as refused the peace offer. This is not therefore Iran that constitutes a threat for peace and the international security. This is on the contrary the Bush administration, because it refuses to put peace to the order of the day.
Bush talks about diplomacy but there will not be real diplomacy until US send Condoleezza Rice to Teheran to speak with the supreme spiritual leader.
And this is in my view what is going on.

Iran has not been paying attention to the news. North Korea is in the steps of dismantling their nuclear weapons program. Sanctions will be lifted and more economic assistance will start to flow in. I'm sure he has read or heard about that and my guess is he's hell bent on destroying Israel.

If Hitler's still alive, I'm sure Pres. Bollinger would invite him to a "friendly robust forum".

Gowd, I'm so glad I rejected Columbia's admission, that university is getting more and more irrelevant.

Very disappointing to read the above posts. Ahmadinejad's true intentions have been stated over and over. He is an actor playing a part in a grand play before the world. Those that believe his intentions are peaceful are being fooled. Look at his past, what he has said, and what he supports. He is not for peace in the world, he is about what he believes his religious teachings tell him. His intentions are for that and that alone.

Even if that is true, he hasnt done anything yet! These attacks on countries in advance is the equivalence of Russia and China attacking USA because they THINK you will attack them or some other country.

And why do you feel that Bush is any better because he doesnt state his true intentions? He lies instead. What is worse?

Ok.
I've got all the time in the world and am willing to look at any evidence you provide. Show me links to the videos of Mr. Ahmadinejad saying all these things and stating his intentions -- and please no translations ... just him speaking. I'll find someone myself to translate -- who shares a neutral point of view, unlike the joke of the American media. I always hear people saying that he said this, and he said that -- but do you honestly expect us to just take your word for it? Or the media's word for it?

Then -- once I show you how much of what the American media says is bullsh#t or mistranslated, I'll show you why Iran has every right to want to put a bit of balance in the region. I love how people try and make Israel out to be the poor innocent little nation, thats all alone against the MASSIVE EVIL MUSLUM 'HOARDES'!!

Do you all honestly think that Mr. Ahmadinejad is so evil, that he would sacrifice himself and his entire country just to kill a bunch of Israelis? You truly think he's so stupid, that he wouldn't predict the thousands of missiles heading his countries way, from hundreds of different nations -- the second after? Oh dear.

So come on, lets see what you got that makes you so confident in wanting to start another war. I want to know what you feel is worth countless more deaths...

this man has sworn to annihilate anyone who doesnt submit to insanity and genocidal religious zealotism. He pretends to be the hitler of our time, so..why is he in a country he vows to destroy or conquer, and wheres the president to ban him? Oh yeah its all a game, and the world is a stupid naive victim of a giant conspiracy of religious cultists ho never once listen to others, set forth by an impitus to stay in one place atime, and pull everyone down with them into a dellusional existence of self justification of evil.

“Ahmadinejad did not say he was going to ‘wipe Israel off the map’ because no such expression exists in Persian.
Academic blogger Juan Cole, offered the accurate translation below:
“The Imam said that this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e eshghalgar-e qods) must [vanish from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad).”
Of course, neo-cons, foolishly and intentionally interpreted Ahmadinejad’s speech as a call for genocide.

Wow a lot af big words That would impress me and others if you can back up your statements. All you hear of Ahmedinajad is what is reported by the press, (unless of course you understand the languagein which case I apologies)
Now I would like to see proof of your statement:
"this man has sworn to annihilate anyone who doesnt submit to insanity and genocidal religious zealotism."

Could you back this up please, or are you just following the usual US BS rhetoric?

I hope they allow him to speak. Nothing like seeing for myself what the man has in mind.
I'd like to make that assesment for myself without the boogieman government telling me what HE SAYS.

My guess is it will never happen.

Yes that is the ideal solution. Let the man speak and lets all hear what he has to say, hear it from the horses mouth.

America has to realise that a lot of people are not amused at US culture influencing detrimentally the way other countries act, speak, and present themselves. And Im a Brit !!!

Unfortunately, the sad thing is -- even if he is allowed to speak, the majority of citizens will hear about what he said only as a brief news report, after the thing is finnished. We all know how that can be taken advantage of, no matter how enlightening his speech may be. Although on the bright side, atleast today we have the internet -- with such resources like youtube where we can get the truth across to relatively large masses.

Could be a lot worse I guess.

I eagerly await how this turns out.

Oh, it will happen, dg, trust me. But just look at where it is happening - Columbia University! Not exactly a bastion of tolerance and reason, are they? Remember what they did to Jim Gilchrist of the Minutemen. Here's a link to a video of how they mobbed the stage when he attempted to speak at Columbia:

You can easily do your own research. There is no justification for using anti Americanism to deny what this nutcase has said in the past. There’s plenty of proof of his words and he has never came out to deny what he said. Here is a long page of quotes from him with the date and place he spoke.

www.adl.org...

" Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's anti-Semitic and anti-Israel views place him and the Iranian regime among the foremost threats to Jews and the state of Israel.

Ahmadinejad repeatedly demonizes the state of Israel and openly calls for its destruction at every opportunity. Most notoriously, he described Israel as a "fake regime" that "must be wiped off the map."

He termed Zionists "the most detested people in all humanity" and called the extermination of six million Jews during World War II "a myth," claiming that Jews have played up Nazi atrocities during the Holocaust in a bid to extort sympathy for Israel from European governments.

Ahmadinejad's virulently anti-Israel and anti-Semitic rhetoric and Holocaust denial are often matched by other Iranian leaders, and the Iranian regime itself has continued to sponsor anti-Zionism conferences and pseudo-academic lectures and exhibits questioning the fact of the Holocaust.

The following is a selected compilation of Ahmadinejad's statements on Jews, the Holocaust and Israel in his own words:"
