That's quite a statement you're making. Did you talk to the guy about his "intent"? Do you have any proof to back up your claim? Didn't think so.

Im surprised that some people think this treatment is fine. I mean, what if you want to ask a politician something and the police say "step away" in the middle of it? Do you still think you have free speech, and if so, whats your definition of free speech?

Is it really free speech when the police can tell you to stop talking for whatever reason, like "disturbing the peace" or any other bull# reason?

Let me tell you how this would have been handled in Sweden. He would have been allowed to finish his question. The police would not have stepped in since he did not break any laws (we dont consider it "disturbing the peace when somebody talks). The politican would have answered his question. Everything would have been fine.

Personally I think the police in USA arent professional, patient and calm. They look more like a gang of people getting high on the powertrip than anything else to me. Sorry, but thats the way it looks like.

And why are people repeating that USA is a free country? Its becoming more controlled than any other country in the world. You are not free at all, unless free means controlled... I dont know, maybe it does?

That incident was on private property and involved privately hired security guards. It had nothing to do with our government, it's policies or law.

It does not indicate that the USA is less free, it might indicate that the people running the school believe in limiting the freedom of their students.

(In America we have "free enterprise", which means a corporation can privately own and run a school for profit. It is this private corporation's policies that those students are subjected to, not that of the US gov.)

Does anyone else get this?

I think the cop's acted a bit harshly here... I mean for a student to openly discuss his opinion's (or anyone for that matter), is also called the freedom of speach. Something which the US Government was founded on. I'm sure Senator Kerry has faced harsher remarks before seeing as he's a politican and for that kid (cause that's what he is) to have been pulled out to the side and basically restrained and then have harm inflicted on him reminds me of a Communistic Government.

I think they should start to realise that these people will be the people voting for their parties in the future and allow them to have their opinion.

If I beat the crap out of someone (without their permission...) in my home it's still assault.

Being private doesn't place the private policies above the law.

Please explain to me how the first amendment was clearly circumvented yet freedom was not comprimised.

I now fully understand how Hitler came to power, and that it is happening again today.

Looking at the various video clips, these are my thoughts:

1. Police stand right behind people who are asking questions - which must be very intimidating.
2. He had not committed a crime.
3. Someone gave the signal to have him removed.
4. The police had totally the wrong approach and created a bad situation.
5. The police over-reacted which made him panic - many people would act the same.
6. 5 or 6 police officers were right on top of him, he was hand-cuffed behind his back, and he was not a threat, but they still used a taser anyway.
7. This event has made the national news around the world and made the USA look very bad.
8. The kid should get a good lawyer and sue for damages.

yeah, your definitely right about that, using the taser was definitely unnecessary. It' called freedom of speech police guards! They treated that guy like he was a slave or someone without any rights.

Xtrozero, as to the students intent, nothing on this site is definitive. It could be argued that his only intent was to get the Senator's reaction to questions which he usually does not have to answer. I'm sure he probably had some some sarcastic replies prepared for any of Kerry's responses but that's besides the point. Also the tasering of this student was something I didn't take up in my post. My concern is with the initial interaction between the student and the officers in this video. All of your response concerned actions that occurred after the initial contact. You assume the officers were only trying to escort him out, but that's only an assumption as they did not state this. If they originally had verbally commanded him to leave, maybe none of this would have happened. But they didn't, they grabbed him, which caused this to happen. In my opinion, physical force should only be the primary means of control when there is a threat of harm to people or property. In a case like this the student was neither a threat to people or property. He was only trying to "cause a scene" which should be handled by verbal commands first. They should have allowed the student to turn it into a physical confrontation if he chose. But they did not, the officers chose to make it physical from the start.

I never said that, please re-read my post that you're quoting.

It may have been "circumvented", true. But my point is that it had nothing to do with the US gov.

If you came to my house, where I was hosting a senator's Q&A forum and I prohibited you from asking questions, then I zapped you with a taser, would this then be evidence that the US gov. is becoming, or already is infringing on people's rights?

It is evidence that I am a Fascist, and that I don't uphold or observe the first amedment. Not the US gov.

So, my argument is that this incident is not evidence that free speech is being is being destroyed in the US, or that the US is becoming a Fascist state. It is only evidence that the people running that school may not be upholding the rights of the students.

even if this "kid" did go there with the soul intention of courseing a scene to get on the news i still think it heavey handed he is living in a free country and is well with in his rights to ask whatever questions he likes to what could of been his president plus it was in a university Q&A session

and from the above post point 3 i saw a vid from another angle and u can blantenly see the 2 cops and the man in the white shirt look to there left at almost exactly the same time and then you see man in white # makeing hand gestures to the effect of get him dowm get him down

Id sue it seems to be the norm nowdays anyway and how can he be acused of inciteing a roit not one person tried to help or defend him infact you can hear peaple laughing it just proves we are either conditioned ,dont care or are just to scared to do anything

Well then you missed the part that he pushed foward of the line of people waiting to ask questions and stepped in front of another person trying to ask a question. This is what led to the cops standing close. Then he doesn't even try and ask a question even though he is told to get to his point. He was rude to the people there and to the authorities.

Even after all that Kerry was trying to get the question out of him, and before he even said one question he said he had 2 more on top of the question he had not even asked yet.

Did the cops go a little over board, yes... Did I want to kick his rude ass watching his stunt, yes... Why do you think many in the crowd were smiling? You do not need to be rude and disrespectful to everyone just to ask a question, at that point who cares what his question is.

Kacen said it the best! If you want to get the point across be polite and don't act like a nut. They will shut you down right now! Act like an idiot and the police, to keep order (Their job!!), will taser you! Wake up and understand what gets the attention that you all are trying to get!
Lots of people are upset about what the Feds are doing but acting like an idiot is only going to get you in trouble! That doesn't help change the order of business, It just makes most people irritated with you! Even if they agree!!!!

This video is cut- ------------it doesn't show how many times he 'pulled away' from the Cops....ABC ran the whole tape wednesday morning on GMA - this student is an idiot. He had it all planned- he wanted this to happen and I feel the cops tried many times to subdue him, but he kept resisting - and cops Tasered him as a last resort.....

It wasn't what he was asking, it was because he was out of control - notice, he was the only one all afternoon who went off.......nobody else did that!

Don't be fooled by people with alterior motives. I am no fan of the Police and their tactics, but then again, we have let this happend by not voicing our opinion through the proper channels many years ago...like respectable calm people with laws and integrity.

The last thing I want to see a respectable event like this is some yokel spewing off at the brain-vent - most people don't want to sit and listen to this guy go off for 30 mins covering 80 subjects in a rant...? that's assinine.

The american society is going to become the best society ever, because nobody will disturb the peace by opening their mouths. It will be all quiet and nice, and everybody will agree with authority all the time which makes it even nicer. Someone will tell you what is right and what is wrong. Simple and effective.

By the way... this hand held tazer is just the beginning. Soon this 30 meter range tazer will be in the hands of cops everywhere, protecting the nation from "criminals" everywhere.

But dont worry, nobody has anything to worry about as long as they dont question authority.
