Probably that area doesn't have geothermal pools that close to the surface, but they do exist. Ever heard of Yellowstone? There are sulphuric pots bubbling right before your very eyes! Really cool looking!

I meant to say that there are not shallow pools THERE in Peru.

Wow, what a vague story this is.

I suppose the big question is "What is this thing?"

I submit that it was a crashed space vessel, possibly extra-terrestrial, based on the poor reporting and vagueness surrounding the nature of the event and the illness.

reading the report that " the police needed oxygen "' i wonder where they [ the police ] were from , a low land area ? - is it possible that police rushing to the scene were simply struck by hypoxia [ altitude sickness ] totally unconected to the incident

maybe your right about the police coming from lower altitude, but all 600 sick poeple rushing up the hill is a bit far fetched, as i beleive most of the 600 ill people are locals & very used to thin air.

Yeah, I doubt this is the wormwood thing. Doesn't sound big enough to turn all that water to poison.

I found a very interesting video of a meator like object in brizil. I wonder if it has a connection?

From the various reports I would think that it is most likely sulfur and/or sulfuric dioxide coming not from the meteorite itself but from the impact crater and ground water. In an earlier report it was stated that "boiling water" came from the impact crater and only a few villagers and the first policemen on the scene were affected. A large release of sulfuric compounds can cause all the "symptoms" that are being reported, including the death of livestock immediately after the impact.

The same thing was seen in New Mexico on the 13th (or early am hours of the 14th). A member just said one was seen over LA on Sunday, and now that video from Brazil on Monday. Very scary stuff. Where are our resident astronomers at????

Reminds me of HP Lovecraft's story "The Color Out of Space" if anyone else has read that. I've always thought a scenario like that would be more likely than humanoid UFO contact.

At the same time, it could just be a case of hysteria. Wouldn't be the first time.

we all think we are indestructable especially when we cant see anything with our eyeballs that looks threatening-----your right though----a smart person would say something i cant see made those other guys sick---better be carefull.the hamas terrorists in gaza launch rocket strikes against sderot on a daily basis---after the launch they send 12-13 year old kids to the launch sites to pick up the launching plateforms----about the time the kids arrive the israelis have locked onto the launch co-ordinates with their big guns and start firing at a target that is out of view---death rains down suddenly from the sky and its all over for the kids.for whatever reason the hamas terrorists think this is a great way to get sympathy from the world they are trying to impress with their "just" cause.why those kids that are next in line havent figured out yet what their relatives are up to is beyond me !

And here's some information on observed meteorite hits in populated areas. Some interesting stories and photos there. I remember seeing an interview with the woman whose car is in this article - She thought it was vandalism by her ex-boyfriend, until she realized that the rock had penetrated the trunk and frame of the car, and was on the ground beneath it.

What an interesting natural event. Refreshing to read a story like this one instead of all the other current events. Great to see video and good reports. I hope that the locals get better, I think maybe the sicknesses where caused by the dust in the air from the impact of the meteor and the heavy sulfur smells. Peeps become sick after earthquakes because the huge amounts of dust created from all the shaking and collapses.

90% sure that it is very high radiation exposure causing the symptoms. This sounds like the classic signs of acute radiation sickness. Headache, nausea, vomiting all very typical. The smell?---who knows. A meteorite just punched a hole in the earth and stirred up a ton of debris.
The source of the radioactive material: 1. Naturally occurring mineral deposits in the earth or 2. the meteor. 3. A man made source. Either in the form of reactor source material or some weaponized source.That being said it would be unusual ( not impossible) to have such a high concentration of radioactivity. The bits of silver and lead dont really help that could come from many sources.

If acute radiation sickness is the cause of the symptoms, then some man made source would most likely be the blame for such high exposure.
